Re: TNG - The Ensigns of Command
A 4 is fair, and traditionally this is a low-rated episode. It's wonky and slow, and it's not really in the groove of later Data episodes. The visuals for this episode are pretty bad. In standard def the bad guys looked like shiny garbage bags, this is one that definitely needed the HD remaster just...

Re: So, She-Ra is getting a Live Action Adaptation... This Should be Interesting :)
At least, She-Ra live-action will likely end up looking better than live-action ATLA. Just thinking from a production level, She-Ra is so much more traditional of a show. You can still get away with well-built sets and props for a lot of the look and action to get the full TRON/Dr. Robotnik type loo...

Re: Alex Kurtzman signs 4 year contract extension worth $160 Million
Well, just look at The Orville , which was putting in respectable ratings on Fox and yet the Disney-financed production is still moving to Disney-owned Hulu. So on the one hand *yes* it is still possible for sci-fi to do OK on network TV, even with Enterprise -level viewership. On the other, the bus...

Re: Alex Kurtzman signs 4 year contract extension worth $160 Million
In point of fact, the deal is the headline amount for the whole deal through 2026. It sounds very much like the number also rolls in Kurtzman's non-Trek projects, too, and every busy-beaver empire builder always keeps a stable full of those. Kurtzman is certainly not the person DS9-era fans would pi...

Re: Voy - Renaissance Man
Voyager is true to form to the bitter end. Unable to stop themselves from rehashing decent and recent episodes, here's "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy" warmed over with a side of "Live Fast and Prosper." I really enjoyed the rant about the penultimate episode needing to mean something and Voyager in ge...

Re: Why Was Catra's Redemption Arc So Well Received
Sure, the arcs of Ben and Catra are at least comparable. They both play second banana in the evil empire until they usurp their masters, and then pull a heel face turn after they find themselves up against a galactic mastermind completely out of their league. If they had used time effectively, espec...

Re: TNG - Galaxy's Child
You hate Voyager's Tech-Tech Deus Ex Machina every episode in the last 5 minutes? You want some real engineering on Star Trek? THIS. This Episode. This episode is just so close to depicting how Engineering Actually Works. People wasting the bulk of their time arguing about things that don't matter. ...

Re: Steins;Gate and Robotics;Notes are the best Science Fiction Anime
Steins;Gate is an amazing show! I also recommend it to any SF fan. Steins;Gate 0 had an interesting premise but did not hold my attention, though technically it's still on my watchlist. My impression is that this follow-on show does *not* taste more like regular Dr. Pepper. XD The 5pb/NitroPlus Sem...

Re: B5: A Late Delivery From Avalon
To Garibaldi, the Postmaster is just a bureaucrat on a power trip. To the Postmaster, Garibaldi is just a bureaucrat on a power trip. Ultimately, I'm going to come down on the side of "just deliver the package already" simply because there's food in it that might spoil. An interesting tidbit about t...

Re: Is Kylo Ren as Bad as Shinzon?
I think Kylo Ren is hardly the worst thing of the sequel trilogy. It's the same kind of misfiring, but Shnzon wouldn't have been able to hold three Star Trek movies as well as Ren did. Exactly. Shinzon was hardly even enough of a character to carry one film. Kylo Ren was written OK for one and a ha...
