Re: Wonder Woman 1984

The strongest part of the movie was when it was trying to be "An 80s Movie". For a while it seemed like it was going to be that. It was going to be An 80s Movie! And then it... kept going... just, on and on... Messing around in the Middle East? Learning To Fly? That's cool and all, but what this mov...

Re: The Final Countdown

A classic case of "We can't tell this story on this budget". At least, not after showing Real F-14s doing Real F-14 Stuff. Then again, just look at Zipang - an anime with essentially the same concept. You can draw whatever you want in an anime, so you're free to depict the explody part to your heart...

Re: New Vegas

... Underrail and Pathfinder: Kingmaker ... "User crafting sandboxes" are only RPGs in Todd Howard's silly, strict definition of the term (which is simple LARPing within a game) that has nothing to do with the genre's tabletop origins. Always on the lookout for underhyped indie games. Will need tak...

Re: New Vegas

One of the last great static RPGs, before Minecraft hit and suddenly everything had to be a user crafting sandbox. Companions as a serious thing was a welcome change from F3, as was the "choose your own ending" aspect. They don't make all the choices easy, either. Definitely looking forward to the n...

It sets a tone and atmosphere than a lot of early episodes, but it also captures exploration and understandin...

Re: Thoughts on Gen Urobuchi?

Psycho-Pass is also very good stuff. It's a police procedural that gets deep into cyberpunk SF.

Re: B5 - Ceremonies of Light and Dark

Even though the individual pieces in this ep are kind of clunky by themselves, assembled they reach a critical mass of good characterization, payoffs, and important moments for the future. The Refa poisoning is definitely one of the top Londo moments, and the big Lennier reveal is framed at an odd m...

Re: B5 - Voices of Authority

Another reminder that B5 sets pretty high standards for this episode to be considered of middle quality. Even so, it's oddly skippable. Ms. Morden here is just another in a long line of Earthgov stooges whose plans on B5 mainly fall flat. The Great Machine and First Ones stuff mainly pays off seeds ...
