Re: Wrath of Khan discussion

The mark of a good story with good performances is that it can require such a stupid contrivance to set it off, but it's all so enjoyable you barely even notice. In this case, it's Starfleet landing on Ceti Alpha V when they meant to land on Ceti Alpha VI. How do you do that!?! Why are they even do...

Re: Villains you would like to see portrayed in a Batman film

Sort of a shame: Gotham was really hit-and-miss with it's versions of the rouges gallery: some were amazing (Penguin, Selena Kyle, Riddler, Joker), others were kind of blah or really bad (Black Mask, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy). What season was Black Mask in Gotham? In season one, he was the business ma...

Re: STD: Lethe

Adding to what you just said, even Mill in his utilitarianism (at the beginning of chapter 4 I think it was) makes essentially this point, as he says that you cannot prove first principles. So he does not prove that utility or happiness is the true moral measurement as such but sets out that it is t...

Re: Star Trek (DS9): The Quickening

Makes me wonder, which would be the absolute most average episodes from each show? The episodes which comes in the middle on each shows internal score, and how would the absolute mediocre episodes compare from each show?

Re: Star Trek: Discovery - thoughts?

Spoiler I might have read the scene wrong, but I got the impression that Stamets and Mirror Stamets got body-swapped. Spoiler Could be, But I don't think so. Mirror Stamets said "he did it" when he woke up. And regular Stamets mentoned Culber but I don't think mirror Stamets knew who that was.

Re: I have a question to those who want to legalize prostitution

but...no. That is not comparable. I still HAVE my genitals even if I don't have a warm hole to stick them into. They are part of me. Saying I can't high-five people isn't the same as cutting off my damn hand. You could pee trough a tube? Might even feel better? Or have others constantly take the pi...

That's a VAST oversimplification of the relationship between countries that have interacted with each for over a thousand years.
Indeed it is, some are not as that fond of the English as hating them would imply.

League of Non-Aligned Worlds -- ... Aligned or non-aligned with WHO exactly? They're aligned with each other (barely) but that really doesn't say anything about this League or its member worlds. There was a non-alignment movement from the 1950s on involving African, Asian and Latin American countri...

Re: Politics of the British Isles

Even if winning is out of the question, Corbyn can't possibly perform as badly as the poll numbers suggest. 15%, really? Labour could be lead by a silly face doodled in felt pen on a red balloon and get 20%. I don't think polls are as accurate as they used to be, either. The polls predicted a Brexi...
