Re: B5: Severed Dreams

I think Clark's government wanted to view Sheridan as a tragic figure. Someone who was corrupted. When he was captured they desperately wanted to turn him. Keeping his ex-wife around especially since she was in uniform was assigned to show that I'm not the bad guy I just want what's best for everyon...

Re: DS:9 "What You Leave Behind"

I do think the Pai-Wraith were a bit of a wasted opportunity. The Pai-Wraith and the changelings have something in common in that they don't really have a physical form. Yes, there are the same why would have thought the changelings would have been interested in another species that didn't necessari...

Re: B5: Point of No Return

I was very young when I first saw Babylon 5 and by that, I mean like single digits. This was one of the most memorable episodes. Before watching the show I think my philosophy was good guys beat the bad guys end of story. It's not an exaggeration to say that the show had a major impact on me. The Ni...

Re: Babylon 5: Dust to Dust Review

Bester was one of my favorite non-main characters. Evil but completely confident he's doing the right thing. I can't imagine he came to a good end. Seeing this review reminded me how much I enjoyed the show. It's nice to see characters grow like G'kar who spends the rest of the show settling into hi...

Re: A look at Garak (DS9)

The thing I think I like best about his character was he was given time to show his different aspects. I don't think over the course of the show he changed all that much, I think we were just given more time to examine him. He could have been such a flat character but he turned out to be one of the ...

Re: The War Prayer (B5)

Babylon 5 was the first sci-fi show I really watched but I never quite realized how weird that ending was. G'Kar was just using the same tactics as those humans he's looking down on. Delenn Knows all too well what it's like to give into hatred and let it lead you on a personal level. As the show goe...

Re: Star Trek: Discovery in trouble?

I think it was in trouble the moment they said prequel. I'm sure there's good prequels out there and the fact that I can't think of any at the moment doesn't mean a thing! Okay I understand it as a business decision. I think it's just the exact opposite thing you would want to do to attract the Star...

Re: Slang, jargon and technobabble, and it's place in speculative fiction

It depends. In certain circumstances like when the show takes place in a future with several intermixing cultures then having a saying from either other human languages or aliens can make sense. Likewise with technology that doesn't exist today. It's just part of the world. All languages borrow some...

Re: Audible

I'm not sure what you mean by classic. Neuromancer was written in 1984 With Dracula being considerably older. Neuromancer was a bit disappointed when I first read it too but that opening line is quite memorable in my opinion. There is a complete collection of Arthur C Clarke on audible but it tops o...
