Re: Replicated food vs real food
Unless we've retconned Enterprise as non-canon (I wouldn't blame you at all) they had 'protein sequencers' in the 22nd century which seemed to function like a more primitive, slower and less efficient version of a culinary replicator. Obviously it couldn't replicate plates or utensils but it could ...

Re: Replicated food vs real food
Now, what if instead of replicating a complete product, you replicated the raw ingredients and then cooked it fresh? You get the best of both worlds - fresh meat/produce of consistent quality, and no worries about supply lines or spoilage. I imagine that’s how any restraunts that want to boast of a...

Re: Replicated food vs real food
Thoughts? And any other ideas of your own? It's very simple. People go to real restaurants, for the ambiente and the service. Having a replicator doesn’t preclude ambience; one of the eating establishments on Deep Space Nine was the ‘replimat’ and I don’t recall seeing/hearing mentioned of a kitche...

Re: Replicated food vs real food
Considering replicators are an outgrowth of transporter tech, my personal headcanon is that likely, unless you don’t have a sample on hand and would thus have todo trail and error programming, someone either scans or transports a ‘prime’ example of the food in question, records the transporter patte...

Re: Replicated food vs real food
Also, thinking about it, if there is a series of commands/drop down menus that could explain how Janeway managed to burn a roast that she replicated that one time; she screwed up the commands/selected the wrong drop down option and ended up unwittingly ordering a burnt roast.

Re: Replicated food vs real food
With 3 I was thinking more along the lines of the replicator probably has preset meals so you just say the name of it and it automatically uses that as the standard and if you want to modify it then you’d have to add commands, and because it is a computer you’d need to use specific commands or it wo...

Replicated food vs real food
So in Trek we see establishments making/selling real food even though replicators are prevalent; why is this? Why would people bother white real food when replicators can make almost anything they want? A few ideas that come to me: 1) novelty value; when replicated food becomes the default, real foo...

Re: The Hermit's Journey. To arms, prequel defenders, to arms!
at least with leia, they thought to change her name Yeah, Lucas should probably have tried to establish at some point in one of the films that Skywalker and Kenobi are the Star Wars equivalent to Smith and Jones so Vader hunting for ‘Luke Skywalker’ between ANH and ESB was like the Terminator hunti...
