Re: Catalan Independence Movement

I don't know that much about this particular conflict, but I'm initially inclined to side with the Catalan Independe...

Re: I am terrified

I do think, though, that the Centre-establishment wing of the party, personified by the Clintons, learned and unfortunate lesson from defeat, which is that the only way to win is to be more "Centrist" and compromise, and they've never really grown past that, even when times changed. The post-9/11 a...

Re: I am terrified

There is also the long-term consequence of seeing our legal and democratic institutions, and public trust in those institutions, systematically eroded. And of white supremacy being given a voice in the political mainstream again. Those may have less obvious and immediate negative effects than two l...

Re: I am terrified

I have to admit that Louise Mensch is getting pretty far out there these days. But I still don't think it's fair to equate the two sides. Re: The Paradox of Tolerance

Wielding shame also tends to be counter-productive. Compare someone to a nazi? many would rather embrace it. Ignore them and Stop giving these morons a platform. Most of them aren't a real threat and let law enforcement deal with those that are. This? this is just feels like identity politics run am...

Re: Korean Crisis, and the risk of nuclear war.

Well, everything seems to have calmed down, for the moment. Though I expect that other people have smoothed things over behind the scenes, while Trump got distracted with something else. Man doesn't even have enough follow-through to engineer a war. Reports I've seen say Kim looked at the sit...

Re: Korean Crisis, and the risk of nuclear war.

The issues we face today are complicated and often closely interwoven, because the world is closely interwoven. We cannot focus on one or two issues in isolation, and expect to ever accomplish anything of value. Well that's the joke isn't it? we're not working on these things outside a very small m...
