To be honest, if there is anything I've learned about the US within the last 20 years, it's that most voters don't care about the world outside of that country. Or more like, they don't understand that it actually exists.
Elections follow this.

Re: SG1-Heroes
The main problem I have with it isn't that the US government wanted to hog the Gate and only let a select few in on it; such conspiracies are pretty common in fiction after all, and those of us who live in other Western democracies have been able to tell that the US has quite the authoritarian strea...

Re: The Expanse - season three
Does Richard Sharpe count as 1 surviving and Ned Stark as 1 death? Imo, yes. It's character deaths that matter. Does Richard Sharpe count as 16 surviving and Ned stark as 1 death? That is actually an interesting question. Sharpe survived against ridiculous odds quite often, so maybe the Meta-Sean B...

Re: Star Trek: Discovery - spoilery thoughts?
This series is basically them thinking dark and gritty is what the franchise needed when DS9 did enough of that At least DS9 went into that direction and you can sort of see DIS as a continuation of that, especially c0nsiddering the two last seasons of Enterprise and the general style of TV series ...

Re: The Expanse - season three
So the expanse is finally back! Look forward to discussing the new episodes again. I still haven't read the books, so I don't know where they will go in season three. I am just watching "The Frankenstein Chronicles" on Netflix with Sean Bean. That is pretty good. Not what I expected at all. So I as...

Re: Orville - Old Wounds
But on the topic of tone, the show I think about when watching the Orville is Stargate SG1. Stargate was WAY sillier than Star Trek, but not to the point where the show undercuts its drama so much, and I sort of feel that its a point the Orville could stand to aim for. Oh! You're right :) The thing...

Re: Orville - Old Wounds
He was literally drugged and you're blaming him? Nobody else under the influence was acting any better. It was a sex pheromone, not a mind control drug (if it was the latter, it would mean none of the dramatic aspects of that episode work because none of what they're doing is in some way reflective...

Re: Orville - Old Wounds
I think we can rush to some judgement. The new standard is be good from the start at least with more channels and streaming services. I think there are different standards depending on what type of series you're looking at. I don't mean as in genre, but in the way they're produced and released. 1) ...

Re: Dias De Los Muertos (B5)
I agree, why here isn't important, but rather the way the episode works internally. And I think it could have been a lot better if they had omitted Pen and Teller
Not to mention that I liked the way Gaiman never answered that "why" question, or that no one else did it either.

Re: Dias De Los Muertos (B5)
It's definitely an odd episode, but the series wasn't really adverse to those. We are also talking about the first half of season five, which was quite slow and not very compelling. Here we have an episode that has some very compelling parts: The whole "Day of the Dead" thing that can't be explained...
