Re: 'House approves statehood for Washington, DC'
The only way the filibuster stays in place when there is both a major recession and major pandemic is if the GOP never uses it. Any obstruction is going to be met with a massive clap back from the Democrats and I think there is a very good chance even the more conservative democrats would back it b...

Re: 'House approves statehood for Washington, DC'
That's a very strange argument as this is a move that helps secure power by reducing the Republican structural advantage in the Senate. Well, let me walk you through it, and then maybe you can point out the flaw in my logic. I am but human. When we say a party is "in power," we generally mean that ...

Re: 'House approves statehood for Washington, DC'
Why can't Pelosi show this kind of Chutzpah when the democrats are actually in power? Because right now, Pelosi can't actually do anything, so she can be forgiven if she wants to waste her time on bills that have no chance of becoming law. With McConnell holding the Senate, nothing she does has a r...

Re: 'House approves statehood for Washington, DC'
Narrator : It won't. This is the left-wing equivalent of voting to repeal Obamacare. It's a publicity stunt for the base, with absolutely no chance of going anywhere. Adding a state would require not only Senate approval, (which is obviously impossible now but increasingly conceivable after Novembe...

Re: Another day, another police beating in America
The concept of representative democracy is that we elect people who represent us, and those representatives represent our interest to the government. Except....the Mayor is elected, right? So...he acts a representative of the people? So as long as the Police Chief answers to HIM (as is normal in mo...

Re: Another day, another police beating in America
Grey, I'm not attacking you here. I'm posting here because I'm interested in what you (and our fellow forum members) have to say. You seem to know a great deal more about what's going on in Minneapolis that your average Joe. To someone like me, who only knows what he reads in the news, that's valuab...

Re: California voted to change its constitution
I suspect this is aimed at the State University System. And I can understand the necessity, even if the optics are less than optimal.

Re: Another day, another police beating in America
As for the questions, well before that - it's a little silly to take the Mayor's complaint completely at face value. Reporting to the mayor and the city council doesn't give you 14 bosses, it gives you 14 people you report to. That is not how I usually hear the word used. https://dictionary.cambrid...
