Re: Why I Still Hate Mass Effect 3's Ending

I'm pretty sure that's because the gaming industry press almost universally spun the story as "How dare these entitled gamers demand that the ending to a game's story make sense and be dramatically satisfying? The nerve! The outrage! The gall! These peons need to learn to take what they get and be h...

Re: TNG - The Emissary

I'm surprised by the lack of comment on the weirdness of the Klingons sending out a ship with its crew in cold sleep a mere 75 years before TNG - well into the TOS era, when we know quite well the Klingon Empire had warp drive. (And if we didn't know that we could deduce it without reference to anyt...

Re: The final countdown?

Coincidentally, one of the F-14 pilots involved in That Scene was recently interviewed on an aviation-focused YT channel. It is perhaps more interesting to aviation enthusiasts than to film buffs, but here is the portion of the interview (about 14 minutes) in which "Shoes" discusses filming the movi...

Re: The final countdown?

The Final Countdown's soundtrack is better than that song. Also, I can't help but smile whenever I watch either this movie or the Zipang anime-series. The thematic and audible similarities are uncanny.... Zipang is also a great series if you really wanna find out, what a modern warship does to Worl...

Re: TNG - Half a Life

Condolences on the loss of your grandmother, Chuck. It's hard to lose a loved one who's still vital and engaged with the world. I would say there's at least one other way to interpret Deanna's line about Dying Before You're Dead, though. Senile dementia can rob a person of much more than just their ...

Re: TOR Bounty Hunter

The Smuggler was treasure hunting, and trying to dodge the wrath (expressed in the form of an assassination contract) of a galactic-scale crime lord. I mostly remember Smuggler for the fact that the big "twist" near the end was so insultingly obvious - right from the Prologue!

Re: TOR Bounty Hunter

I'm having trouble with The Lone Rose's backstory here. "Some Republic recruiter turned his nose up at me, so I became a murderer and slaver." I mean, in the end, that line about talk, that applies to the Lone Rose as well. At what point in the BH story does the PC engage in taking or trading slave...

Re: The Lost World: Jurassic Park

I only saw TLW once, decades ago - and that was right after the one time I read the book the film is sorta-kinda based on (well... with which it shares a title, anyway), which made for an even more disorienting experience as I kept expecting there to be similarities between the two. About all I reme...

Re: TOS - Who Mourns for Adonais?

... there are reasons to think they might have been able to hack the Federation and get the log reports on the incident and so be totally aware it was Q. Huh? The Borg are quite possibly the most incompetent hackers in science fiction. Even in First Contact , where they enjoyed direct, physical acc...

Re: TOS - Who Mourns for Adonais?

I know Star Trek has been a little inconsistent on the subject, but does driving the last member of a Space it’s to suicide count as genocide? I mean, it’s not like he was a threat to the Federation - a “no entry” sign was good enough for the Guardian of Forever or the Talosians. :) My vague unders...
