Re: DS9 - Rejoined

Regarding this episode's in-story of the level of Trill society banishment of the symbiotes, I think that comes from how very concerned the Trill society is with making sure that nothing "contaminates" their pool of symbiotes--even another symbiote. The Trill society lies to its people already about...

Re: ENT - Bound

My take is that the Ferengi were intended to be the Golden Age of Capitalism in space, while the Orions are more like Barbary pirates in space. While Star Trek was sold as Wagon Train To The Stars, the whole feel evokes 18th and 19th-century European oceanic exploration. You’ve got Kirk and his cre...

Re: Short Treks - "Calypso"

It would be a nice build off of what was established, as well as provide consequences for Burnham's mother's actions. You could also put it on Pike, who made the decision to provide a source of power to that church. A thousand years later they're basically religious space crusaders fighting "infide...

Re: Short Treks - "Calypso"

Setting it a thousand years is no guarantee that technological progress was nonstop to the point a possible existing Federation is ten times as advanced. Starships existed long before humanity stopped hiding in caves. Starfleet was still having 23rd century era ships in service, which showed how no...

Re: Short Treks - "Calypso"

I feel like they should have removed a few battle scenes and used the money to expand the Short Treks to full episodes. But then all those battles that Gen Xers have been dreaming about since they could play with action figures will never be adapted. :p ;) Seriously though, that's my biggest critiq...

Re: Short Treks - "Calypso"

This short wasn't my best liked short at first viewing, but after viewing it a few times it grew on me to the point I felt like it was a good direction for the overall short trek idea. As Chuck put it: with this short, the Short Treks proved they could stand on their own two feet.

Re: DIS - Brother

Let me preface my comment by saying I grew up watching TOS, TNG, DS9 and the first part of VOY before losing interest part-way. My Dad was a Trekkie of the TOS era who kept coming back. He didn't mind Discovery when I showed it to him, and he agreed he liked Season 2 more than Season 1, but he had t...

Re: Short Treks - "Runaway"

The dissonance with Georgiou really annoys and frustrates me. Given the storyline in Season 2, it really feels as if it's being set up to "redeem" her by softening her, but it's really hard to do that with someone who crossed the moral event horizon, shot it a few times, and then used it as a propu...
