Re: The Final Star Wars Trailer

I never said it didn't have depth. Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of my favorite works of fiction. I enjoy the characters, the beautiful world they inhabit, and the execution of the story arc. That's all quite consistent with the fact that ATLA is an adventure/action show, and its perfectly legit...

Re: The Final Star Wars Trailer

The issue is that yes, they shoved Legends fans aside for a "wider" audience, ie got greedy. Spamming the market with a Star Wars movie nonstop for FOUR YEARS? Really? Look how well that worked out for them. And if they hadn't had their eyes filled up with dollar signs, they could have had time to ...

Re: The Final Star Wars Trailer

I have no problem with taking from Legends material - a good idea is a good idea, much like how DC backported Harley Quinn and certain details for other characters like Mr. Freeze into other works from the DCAU. My disappointment is more that Dark Empire isn't generally considered the best of the EU...

Re: The Final Star Wars Trailer

This could easily be a case of trailers lying, but it looks like they're doing a sort've-adaptation of Dark Empire. If so, it really doubles down on the Original Trilogy characters achievements being undermined - not only was the Empire was able to get back up again and cripple the New Republic, but...

The novels are, like, the underwear section of department store catalogues, seems interesting at the time but you grow out of it.
That was somehow the perfect description of my relationship with Star Wars books that I didn't know I needed. Kudos.

Re: Need help with "Star Chronicles" (my eight-way sci-fi fanfiction)

Never mind, found it. Okay. to go back to the Empire vs. Federation war, (since as mentioned these are the two franchises I'm most familiar with), if you're sticking with those numbers than bye-bye Federation (barring interference from even crazier/less defined stuff like the Warp Gods and Q). Forgi...

Sorry, I feel like you posted a list of weapon power ranges for various 'verses, but now I can't find it.

Re: New Picard trailer

Oh, sorry. What I meant was the exact opposite - I like stories that allow for change and evolution rather than always going back to a status quo. "One and done" was more meant to refer to a story that is allowed to have a beginning, middle, and end rather than existing in a quantum state of continu...

Re: New Picard trailer

You're probably right there, and while I prefer a one-and-done tale with a good conclusion rather than take-backsies, for a pop-culture icon like Star Trek, keeping the setting preserved so that future storytellers can work there can be argued to be valuable.

Re: New Picard trailer

Honestly its too early to tell. If STD season 3 is the reboot that we've all been waiting for, then it may be good. I've changed my opinion slightly on the fall of the Federation thing a bit since I wrote my previous comment. If it is a TEMPORARY thing, time travel or dimensional nonsense, then it ...
