Re: Star Trek Dsicovery: Season Three

I actually like how Michael is obsessed with the Burn and no one else really cares. It's her obsession say with, "How did the Spanish American War start!" Or, to be more apt, "Who started the nuclear war in Fallout? America or China!" The Admiral is like, "It was a 150 years ago! Who cares!" Or: vz...

Re: Wrath of Khan discussion

Chuck, this was simply outstanding! Sometimes I want to laugh at psycho Janeway and calling people Dork von Weenie. But sometimes, I want to hear the story behind the work, the impact, the reasons, and this review knocked that out of the park! I feel this review couldn't have come at a better time. ...

Re: Star Trek Dsicovery: Season Three

If the their solution to Burnham being overpowering is to making Tal overpowering instead I'm going to be upset. Having just seen S3E6... Erm, aren't you an episode off? Isn't this last one just episode 5? If the their solution to Burnham being overpowering is to making Tal overpowering instead I'm...

Re: Star Trek Dsicovery: Season Three

The dilithium going inert could easily cause all the warp cores to explode. If dilithium controls, moderates, whatever, the matter/antimatter reaction, and it suddenly went inert, that means the reactors all instantly lost the ability to control the reaction. Think about a rocket, the combustion cha...

Re: DIS - Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2

Can we let the spore drive die That was the stupidest thing Trek ever came up with, even dumber than interstellar cetaceans and transwarp amphibians. Why did anyone think that was a good idea in the first place? Honestly I see the appeal but once you made it a prequel we know that it will have to b...

Re: DIS - Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2

I see it as a broader problem with how CBS is approaching the newer Treks. Every previous Trek had common elements which collectively made them "Star Trek." Some key elements that tied them together: a single, "home" space object (ship or station), an ensemble crew, tackling the unknown of space, br...

Re: Star Trek: Discovery - Season 3 Trailer

I guess my problem with a future show that shows the Federation destroyed is it suddenly makes everything we've seen and done, and are doing (Picard) seem almost pointless. Maybe pointless is too strong, but I can't think of a better word, but it definitely puts a damper on things.

Re: What is a good review for a newcomer to watch?

I'd do any of the Star Trek episodes Chuck has rated as an 8, 9, or 10 for their respective series. VOY Timeless, TNG Best of Both Worlds, DS9 In the Pale Moonlight, the Siege of AR-558. I don't think it's any coincidence that my favorite SFDebris videos, are also the best episodes/movies. But on th...

*SNIP* ...also, just gunna put this out there: Egypt was not part of this meeting, despite the Stargate being taken from Egypt. That's a bit poor form Hammond. I believe this meeting was for the permanent members of the UN Security Council, Egypt is not one of them. At one time I thought it was 6 c...

Re: A Look at Archer

I think the biggest problem with Enterprise was it began too early, 2151 is too far from 2161 to be able to tell a meaningful founding of the Federation story without some degree of pointless meandering. Had they started in 2153, about the time of season 3, things could have been better. Maybe conde...
