Re: [DS9] Sons of Mogh
Frankly, I have a problem whenever Trek characters erase memories from anyone. That's dark tech, and I don't think it should be justifiable... well, EVER. Erasing a person is, in my opinion, worse than killing them. Manipulating memory can easily be altered into basically brainwashing, but on a VERY...

Re: SG-1: Revelations
As far as I am aware, they were not open topped vehicles. Some of the toy-models were, that much I know. Ah, here. I finally found a picture of one of the movie props: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/ad/9c/38/ad9c3837e3900dc8ea9d0536831c3518.jpg It shows a closed cockpit variant on the right, doesn'...

Re: Atlantis: Ghost in the Machine
I don't know if your thinking goes QUITE this far, but viewing your body and yourself as separate entities is often considered a psychosis. I do not consider the "I" or the concious thought as a separate entity to the body in such a way as you seem to describe. The "I" is a part of the overall enti...

Re: SG-1: Revelations
Ba'al also would be a older God compared to the others too. If I recall correctly he was actually part of the Jewish pantheon before they went monotheistic. Like he would be 5000 years old. Or around 3000 BC. Or we could just treat Ba'al as a unique case. Who knows the SG-1 version of Ra may have b...

Re: Atlantis: Ghost in the Machine
First and foremost, I do not like using the word "soul", as it has a very strong ecclesiastical or religious connotation which I strictly reject. A "soul", in my understanding, isn't strictly a function of our biological vessel, but something distinct. Something which can be proverbially "spirited ...

Re: Hope and Fear
Because writers are notoriously shit at drawing conclusions out of the concepts they introduce for their specific story. I mean, just think about what the Transporter can be used for, beyond what we see on screen. Or Replicators, which should be functionally capable of printing entire ships ad hoc....

Re: SG-1: Revelations
Well, you could also phrase that as "the other Gou'ald System Lords behave more or less like Apophis". As far as the TV version of the franchise goes, Apophis came first. True. Or behave how Ra did in the movie. If you watch the series, Ba'al really is the only one that shows anything past the ster...

Re: SG-1: Revelations
I have always found Osiris to be a rather interesting character as far as System Lords go (because lets be honest, only Apophis and Ba'al actually have characters to speak of) and is someone who would be written very differently today with the whole ''gender'' element thrown in there. The Stargate ...

Re: Hope and Fear
Yeah, I've tried my hardest over the years to come up with a decent theory for how the thing actually works, but I always reach a point where I realize each person on the holodeck would need to be encased in a self-contained tread-milled sub-unit, with its own gravity that is networked to every oth...

Re: Atlantis: Ghost in the Machine
The soul is ''you''. It is the bit of you that is looking out of your eyes reading this. It is the bit that is perhaps typing out a response to me right now; picturing your words, articulating your points, drawing from your experience, talking to yourself in your head. It is the bit that carries al...
