Yeah, this isn't a bad Voyager, but yeah, shouldn't have been in this run slot. And that was something that totally could have been changed any time they wanted to before showing the episodes.

The make you scared/outraged and watch/read formula of news is exhausting, self-consuming, and damaging to society. I can't wait for the machine overlords or the SMOD at this point.

Intelligent people can be idiots too. There is a cultural aspect of the dumbening that is not really addressed, because being smart isn't cool, isn't desirable, and is not rewarded in this world. In this world the "smart" thing to do is keep your head down, go with the flow, and fit in.

The DS9 episode Meridian (Season 3 episode 8) seems relevant to the nature of illicit cloning of someone on the holodeck at least.
