Re: Recent Political Violence in America

....he lost his JOB? Most people who murder somebody end up in PRISON. He wasn't "an innocent man", yes, he was guilty of the crime of selling loose untaxed cigarettes. So what? Last time I checked, the Death Penalty is not the punishment on the books for selling loosies. There are plenty of ways to...

Re: The Paradox of Tolerance

I'm not sure exactly where the line should be drawn, but I think "Brazen neo-Nazis" is a start. Sure, people throw the term "nazi" around a lot, that's why we have Godwin's Law. But if you work in a decent criteria for what qualifies Nazi behavior, such as, say, wearing the armbands, giving the Hitl...

Re: Recent Political Violence in America

And did it lead to any productive results? Any consequences?
We had a cop strangle a man to death, on camera, but that wasn't enough evidence to prove that he strangled a man to death. For that story, there are so many more like it.

Re: DS:9 "What You Leave Behind"

Yeah, no argument there. I think it's enough to prove it can be done properly, but execution has to be consistent throughout. I heard somewhere, either from SFDebris or from a featurette, that the Pah Wraiths were originally supposed to be these little goblins that lived in the fire caves causing mi...

Re: DS:9 "What You Leave Behind"

Now that part two is up I can say... Well not much about the episode, Chuck pretty much nails everything I was going to say and says it much better. My only differing opinion is that Garak seems more like a post-WW2 German than a post WW1 German citizen. The Cardassian that Damar shot in the back a...

- but they are not the ones with centers of power in academia. They can't twist the process of science to spit out the answers they want The only reason that the right are not ones with centers of powers in academia and not in a position to twist the process, is because they have a basic worldview ...

Re: Charlottesville and Antifa

To clarify, do you disagree that violence is ever politically necessary, that it is sometimes effective, or that Antifa should not be condemned for saving interfaith clergy from the violence of homicidal Nazis?

Re: Recent Political Violence in America

Alright. There are many different lessons of history. I still maintain the problem is that police forces have a recurring pattern of doing fuckall to confront white supremecists, and sometimes actively aiding them. Black Lives Matter is LITERALLY a movement built upon a group of people who can be mu...

Re: Charlottesville and Antifa

This was a nation BIRTHED in violence. The founding fathers did not gain independence from British rule by holding candle vigils. Sometimes, violence is not only effective, but politically necessary. If there's hundreds of angry Nazis surrounding a few priests and rabbis, chanting blood and soil, we...
