None of them, of course, blame Lucas and/or Speilburg for starting the ball rolling with works like Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Must be the children who are wrong.
There's a different between those and this churned out tripe. This is little different than the predominance of comic books now in libraries that have increasing shrinking catalogues of actual literature.
Spielberg and Lucas had something to their works. Even the Prequels did and weren't just filled with Awesome Button Abrams crap.
I've looked at some MauLer videos recently, and he also talks about this "Abrams cool stuff" in a cynical way;
so is this some kind of trending criticism type of the recent times, the notion that awesome/cool stuff is bad and "crap" and Abrams is somehow the main "culprit" of this?
Like was the Starkiller scene too impressive, do things need to be more understated or sth, what's the main point there lol?
There's different kinds of awesome/cool and Abram's seems to be what in video game circles is called the "Awesome Button": You don't build a good story or good gameplay, you just throw out tons of HUGE damage counters and explosions and shove it all in everyone's face that AWESOME is happening and they should be thrilled (And they do because it amps up the dopamine hits).
Don't make quality, just FUS RO DAH, LAWL!
A good example of Awesome Button is the stupid (and false) mobile game ads on Youtube where in a few seconds someone starts with nothing and then builds a HUGE base with massive structures being built and tons of gold flooding into their coffer as they bulldoze their enemies.
Or the tower defence ones where thousands are being killed and a counters fly up like mad. It's all BIGGER BIGGER BIGGER! AWESOME! AWESOOOOOME!

Abram's is the movie equivalent of Todd Howard in making shallow, but AWESOME gameplay. It's revealing that as much as most Fallout fans came to know and love the series through Fallout 3's hiking simulator gameplay, New Vegas had something which resonated with even Awesome Button lovers that made them recognize there was more substance to the game than Bethesda's and they really enjoyed it. IMO, it is the reason and not Obsidian missing their rating score that is the reason why Beth will not allow them to make more Fallout games: they make better games than Bethesda and should, they made the original Fallouts.
This is a good example of Awesome Button crap now in Trek where aliens are pissed off only for an awesome chase where the heroes cool and causally run off a cliff "WEWing!" as their shuttle opens up and swoops in to grab them so effortlessly, so cooly. There is no drama or tension or even recognition that the protagonist screwed up:

Same with this ship which is an evolution of Awesome Button on Spock's spinny ship from the first Trek reboot that was only spinny cus, AWESOME BUTTON!:
