French Politician Blasts Trump
Re: French Politician Blasts Trump
20 years before WW1 Austria, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States got together to beat up China. Why not do that? Or heck, let's go a step beyond! 250 years ago America answered to Britain. Let's go back to then!

The Russians left halfway through WW1 to go off and found the Soviet Union leaving the Allies high and dry. I would also like to note here that the Russians in particular like to conveniently forget that they were allied with Hitler at the start of WW2 and only switched sides because they were backstabbed. They were very happy to carve up Europe alongside the Nazis.sayla0079 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:10 pmThe thing is WW1 is a different timeframe compared to now. Different leaders are in charge compared to then, the countries can't act the same way they used to. For example Russia might have been our ally in WW1 but they aren't trustworthy with anyone now due to their current leader.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 2:41 amBack in WWI we were all friends. US, France, and Russia. We couldn't have won if we all didn't work together and it's not very different now.

I dunno, I'm with Bridge on this one. Why won't Europe help us screw Europe over? I thought the whole point of Europe was to make AMERICA feel better and do better? Jeez... some continents, I swear.

Actually... Tsarist Russia is pretty much the same as modern day Russia. One of the many primary reasons for World War 1 happening was Russian Pan-Slavism, the nationalist russian strive for a "Unified Slavic World" under explicitly russian leadership, a concept that shows a striking resemblence to what is nowadays called "Novorossyia" (New Russia) in Russia, aka the primary reason for the war against Ukraine, once you removed all the bullshit about NATO and whatnot from the table. Russia hasn't been the nice guy in a loooooooooong time...sayla0079 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 7:10 pmThe thing is WW1 is a different timeframe compared to now. I have to say, that I am firmly on the British side of things in regards to the American Revolution. There are a heck of a lot of false pretenses when it comes to the reasons for the Revolution and while I support the claim of "no taxation without representation", you just can't ignore that the taxes that were raised, had to be raised precisely because Britain essentially fought World War Zero on behalf and to the benefit of the American Colonies and was on the brink of financial collapse. So pulling that stunt was quite the dick move from the Americas.

Note quite. US was friendly to everyone including Germany. During WW1 there was support for Germany. Offhand, I think the US was on good terms with France and the Brits. Though by WW1 the US was quietly building a powerful navy that could eventually overtake the Grand Fleet. Not in any overly aggressive way of course.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Wed Mar 12, 2025 2:41 amBack in WWI we were all friends. US, France, and Russia. Its not like WW2 where it was all nice and clear. WW1 was just a stupid and sad four year event due to egos. Didn't help a few unstable governments were involved either.
TBH, this feels like more WW2. Where the Soviets allied with Germany. In this sense, Germany would be Russia and the Soviets would be the US. Oh and Japan would be North Korea today too.
I got nothing to say here.

Eh, I'm not going back to British leadership because trans people are screwed either way. Let's mix shit up and defer to Mexico.

Also I was thinking today about how US is actually reminiscent of Germany leading up to WWI. From an economic history perspective when looking at the war that is..

EU is putting tariffs on the US now.
I think Trump understands how tarrifs work and doesn't care. It's just another tax on the consumer aka everyone. Just to fund his tax cuts for the rich.
Also now he is admitting the US will go in a recession. One of his making. I am wondering when the breaking point is for his followers.
