Except that much like the focus on "gun violence" this is just a way of cherry picking. Mass shootings are included in violent crime, and there's no way around that for you. Violent crime has had an overall downward trend for the past 30 years. It ticked up briefly more recently, thanks in part to mass shootings, but it is still no where near what it was 30 years ago.
