Lawmakers introduce statehood bill for Puerto Rico

I don't think it has much chance of becoming law, but if by some miracle it did go through and they got their own congress members, maybe our leaders would start giving a blueberry fuck when they get destroyed by storms.

I wouldn't object to Puerto Rico getting statehood if they unambiguously voted for it, but AFAIK they haven't. The last vote they took was for statehood, but IIRC many anti-statehood sympathizers abstained. I couldn't, in clear conscience, want Puerto Rico to become a state without a clear mandate of Puerto Ricans.

That's probably a lot less complicated than letting Puerto Rico go independent. An island full of American citizens no longer ruled in any way by the United States would be... Well, it could make for interesting times.
