Symbolism is pretty much what the candidates of 2020 are running on. They even signed Sanders' single-payer healthcare bill they admitted was just for show - the same bill that gave no specifics on how we were going to pay for all this.

G-Man wrote: Sun Mar 31, 2019 4:39 am No, it's a set-up to promote the careers of Cory Booker and Kamala Harris. The anti-lynching law is unobjectionable, but largely unnecessary, as states no longer wink at lynching. It was largely passed for symbolic reasons, and the practical goal was to give Booker and Harris a legislative accomplishment they could point to.
And that is horrible and sinister because...?
A symbolic lynching law to promote two politicians' careers is not sinister.

Staging a hate crime to promote the bill is horrible and sinister.
Ah, yeah okay.

I still don't think the crime was staged just to promote their careers, but honestly I'm having a lot of trouble trying to figure out the motives behind this. =S

So, this happened.

And people wonder why the Chicago police have an image problem.

For...pouring peroxide on a black four year old's birthday presents and smashing his cake.
And this is relevant in this case how? What about...
A demonstration of the city's institutional racism? Duh.

So it's institutional racism when two black nigerians attack a black gay american? Beyond that obvious disconnect, you are also exectuing Whataboutism. You should know better than that. How a bunch of not even properly suited up cops on a raid allegedly behave bears no relevancy on the investigation of whatever happened with Smollet either anyways.

Not having the easiest of time following your charge here. It's understandable what Phipps is getting at seeing how Chicago is notorious for having a cesspool of a police department. It's emblematic of corrupt municipalities in the United States. If it was a Justice League villain it would be Lex Luthor.

You asked what the relevance of the police pouring peroxide on a four year old's toys was. I said it. Also, I'm on Smollett's side and don't buy the police's version of events.

The Nigerian brothers are suing now, in part for it being said that one of the brothers is gay. The brothers like visiting family in Nigeria from time to time, and being believed gay in Nigeria can be dangerous.

Oh, Jussie. You're the gift that just keeps on giving.
A Cook County judge on Friday ordered the appointment of a special prosecutor in the Jussie Smollett case, which could lead to new charges against the "Empire" star.

Chicago Tribune reporter Megan Crepeau was in this morning's hearing, where Judge Michael Toomin ruled that when State’s Attorney Kim Foxx recused herself from the case, she did not have the authority to appoint her replacement.

Crepeau reported that the special prosecutor may further prosecute Smollett and quoted the judge as saying if they have "reasonable grounds to believe that any other criminal offense was committed ... special prosecutor may commence the prosecution of any crime as may be suspected."

The judge's ruling stated that the special prosecutor was to be appointed so as to "restore the public's confidence in the integrity of our criminal justice system."
Frankly, this sounds good to me. Kim Foxx may need to burn for this one. (metaphorically, of course)
