Boot's on the other foot now!

This is for topical issues effecting our fair world... you can quit snickering anytime. Note: It is the desire of the leadership of SFDebris Conglomerate that all posters maintain a civil and polite bearing in this forum, regardless of how you feel about any particular issue. Violators will be turned over to Captain Janeway for experimentation.

I think there is too much freely available porn in which children have damaging access to. I agree with porn filters.
Seriously though, the EU has not banned access to anything. It's just companies being stupid, greedy fucks, as PerrySimm pointed out. The EU is indeed protecting you in this case, even though you might not appreciate it, because 9 out of 10 webpages look like this, if you check your Adware Blocker's filter list (I know, it's in german, but the relevant parts are close enough to English to understand what is going on):

I forgot which page that was, just that it was a link to a newspage (I believe it even was one that was linked here by Fuzzy), but I can asure you that it was not a page that needed 998 Cookies to display whatever I wanted to check out there.

I don't, not remotely. It's centralised nannying control freakery at its most blatant. If there is an issue (and even that seems to come more from Mary Whitehouse style theorising than anything else AFAICT) then the answer is for ISPs to offer blocks that the account holder can turn on (and that's putting aside just how easy it is to get around these things, although young children won't be able to). Sure, they'll say parents aren't savvy enough yadda yadda yadda but I'll never be able to get behind "some people aren't responsible so we'll operate on the default that none of you are." That turns my stomach.

Yeah, bare minimum, it'd keep most of the pre-teens out of that stuff. Some WILL get around it and most will know what's up by high school, anyway, but it's that much.

I feel a little like gloating because of all the buzz about tearing down statues of Confederate Generals. To me it felt kinda hypocritical to remove a plaque honor Confederate soldiers while we have a monument to Washington and Jefferson.
And who the fuck will be woke enough to be honored when it's done?
By their heavy standards no one.
