Computers and media to exchange data between computers without much effort, even direct networks did already exist in 1980. You are off by at least one, maybe two decades in that particular regard.

@LittleRaven They don't wanna fix the immigration system. The old white bigots in the GOP know it's their last defense against a Latino wave oversweeping the primarily European-descended Caucasians by 2050 and thus a (they fear) mostly Democratic voting bloc. That said, they shouldn't bother. It's white people's fault for choosing not to breed, systematic failure that ensures white people have easier access to contraceptives (hence where you get their religiously-fueled push-back to try and "make" people breed, forced birth, banning birth control, etc... it's fear), and I have met Latinos who lean right-wing. So it's not that hard to adapt ever so slightly to cancel out the growing numbers that will outstrip a majority of whites by 2050.

Oh, if the GOP had taken the post-Romney autopsy they'd done seriously, the country would be a much stranger place. Even the extant, Trump-headed, "Mexico is sending their rapists" GOP has a much larger share of the latinix vote than other non-white ethnicities. One that dialed that back, dusted off the Bush-era immigration reforms, and put folk like Rubio at the forefront would probably get a larger share for hispanic voters than the Democrats do white ones.
I'm not sure I agree with your first assertion - bureaucratic fuckups are a fact of life. Yes, they suck, and we should seek to minimize them, but they are not necessarily the sign of malicious actors.
Oh, put another way-
It's nominally possible that all actors in the ICE/CBP pipeline are acting in good faith to process people as justly and swiftly as can be managed in the broken system. However, given the top level pressure from the Trump administration, their agent pool often being rejected police officers, and the fact that ICE since its founding has been primarily dealing in physical boarder crossings to such a degree that policy against racial profiling is a lost cause, it's very hard to believe there aren't bad actors at various levels of the system.
And given how strained and inherently broken the system is, it takes very few bad actors to add tremendous strain and create many more mistakes than the system would produce on its own. A cut corner here, closing of ranks there, adds up quite quickly.

Yuka: uh... alright, but I'm still curious. If someone fails the *checks your wording* far left purity testing you're talking about, what exactly... happens. What consequences were so dire you had to declare it a lost cause.
