Part of the problem being that welfare state programs require a somewhat growing population to remain solvent. A population decline is a looming crisis.
A managed democracy is a wonderful thing... for the managers... and its greatest strength is a 'free press' when 'free' is defined as 'responsible' and the managers define what is 'irresponsible'.”

Of course because he was talking about white people.

Yep he basically said its a blessing because more whiteys are dying.
Did I mention race? No. Don't be a bloody idiot trying to drag race into it. My position is simply that most places would be better off with fewer people, and the world in general certainly would. A falling birthrate nicely achieves that, no morally and ethically unacceptable means involved. It's only a problem if the rate is too rapid to adjust to. If Italy is facing a reducing population then I'm envious. Less resources needed for Italy, less pressure on housing, public services, infrastructure. More to go round, overall improved quality of life.

You're screwed up if you interpreted that as having anything to do with race.
Are you directing this at me?
I got nothing to say here.

As far as I can tell, every time population shrinks in a country, the standard of living drops, people report being less happy, and more extreme political movements start coming to power. I'd love to research a counter-example....do you have one?

You can tell because women are unhappy having entered the corporate space while feminist insist it's what they really want and are scared they may return to traditional gender roles and find actual fulfillment
I'm sorry. So your position is, that women wanting to be in the workforce is social engineering?

Okay, are "traditional gender roles" not a form of social engineering?

Is it possible that being unhappy in the corporate workplace is not a function of gender, that it has more to do with corporate environments being dehumanizing and unfulfilling work? That the reason the stereotype of corporate characters is more, "I will destroy all of this person's work and future, then do coke, then cheat on my wife" or "I've murdered a bunch of hookers and homeless people" is because they are increasingly dead inside?

Rocketboy1313 wrote: Tue Feb 18, 2020 4:51 pm "Pro-human" is a new one. Is that why you specified the "white people" part earlier?
There are billions of people on the planet and you think progressives are what? Trying to get rid of everyone? Not the far more logical, fewer people using fewer resources is more sustainable?
Even with the shrinkage, Italy still has 10,000,000 more people in it than it did in the 1960's.
Never mind the whole, a big reason birth rates shrink in developed countries is access to birth control and people having the ability to chose not to have children as a labor source for family farms.
Firstly, I specified white people because we are talking about Italy. I have been consistent on this position indifferent of the race of the people discussed, and you can go to the Japan thread to see that. Secondly, yes. Yes, I do in fact think that, and this is why: https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/cambridge-professor-thinks-should-human-17684215

Each of you stating a single sentence and inferring the other being stupid/racist is not useful.
Write out more complete thoughts and put forth questions.
I've been accused of writing posts that are too long more then once, you're the first person that has a problem with succinctness.

What do you want, more and more people? Just what's your problem here?
Firstly, I was trying to be smart-my mistake. Malthus is dead, I was saying you can go join him in a ditch somewhere for all I care.

Secondly, Malthus like you advocated for a smaller number of people. Even in his time he thought there were too many people. The problem with you "argument" is that we as a species have never had it better or easier, NEVER. And yet the birth rate has fallen bellow the replacement rate. The better and easier life gets, the lower the birth rate gets to the paint it falls under the replacement rate. In mathematics terms, the human population of Italy is tending towards zero... as is the population of most of the developed world and East Asia.

People are concerned Panda's aren't mating and they're heading towards extinction, well, guess what? any population with a sub-replacement birth rate is heading there, not just fucking pandas.

The fact that they say they want to be in the workforce, despite the fact it makes them unhappy, is evidence of social engineering.

No, they are biologically derived.

Women are less happy in the corporate world than men were and men are less happy staying at home than women were. There is generally less happiness in the world as gender roles are reversed.

Hey a source.
Thank you.

And it is to a single piece of work written by one person.
...A single point does not make a line let alone a trend.

Whatever.

Feel free to treat any and all news of population shrinkage as apocalyptic. And go ahead thinking that this is some sort of movement instead of the academic equivalent of trolling.
