Mass Evictions

Post by Fuzzy Necromancer »

I know that at least, like, 7 out of the 4 horsemen are riding, but anyone else notice this Mass Eviction thing going on? Seems like a bad idea, given that you have to fight Covid19 by staying at home and a great many people would become homeless, and that is also a great way to spread the virus like wildfire, and if it mutates enough to render a vaccine useless that could harm even the rich people who control half of our nation's wealth. But hey, what do I know?

A rent abatement would be nice. I need to bug my mayor and governor about that.

I heard about this. The potential of alot of people being evicted from their homes due to not being able to pay since unemployment is so high.

I live in NJ. I am not sure about other states, but NJ has been giving $600 on top of unemployment. So you have the potential to make up to $1200 per week on unemployment. Collecting unemployment is a bit different too as you don't have show that you are actively showing you are looking for a job either.

Take for example me, I got furloughed by my company to save the company. They couldn't hope to keep everyone of 150 or so employees when work was dwindling with no rise in sight.

So I collect unemployment and get that $1200 per week. I live alone and no kids. I can easily live off of that and have money to spare. In fact some of my Co workers told me that they are making more money than they did unemployed. But these same people would like to go back to work.

Hell that extra $600 got extended.

I mean I live in fucking NJ. Other states couldn't do better?
I got nothing to say here.

Well, for one thing, a lot of stuff can mean you don't qualify for unemployment. In my state at least, I can't get unemployment because I'm a freelancer. I imagine our dear Chuck is in a similar position.

SFDebris is probably a freelancer, but he doesn't have to go into an office to show shoulder spiders whispering into Janeway's ear.

OTOH, I don't know if Patreon support has taken a hit as people run low on money.
