Biohazard President blocks Wildfire Relief

Our Glorious Leader is denying an entire state ravaged by sky-darkening fires relief money because he doesn't like states that don't vote for him. Captain Crimson, if you even attempt to Both Sides this issue I will rip out your living soul and bind it into a gently used Starfleet Captain Barbie.

are you now going to accuse the president of being indecisive or not listening to the experts at FEMA?

Like, given how Mr. 45 ran his business, I don't see this being an issue at all. I admit it's right up his alley. And you can't run a government like a business. One of the biggest flaws I've been criticized on, fairly as I see it, is I'm too much of a big-scope thinker, so I don't invest too much on the problems of the present. Though I don't know what else you'd require from me. Since I did reluctantly throw my hat in the ring for Mr. Biden.

These issues will resolve themselves in time, but it helps if we can advance a little further in the present. And what happens next month will determine that. Also, IIRC, didn't Mr. 45 deny relief aid to Puerto Rico? Like, what a shock, huh? That a corporate shark would behave that way, but people knew what they were getting into.

You realize FEMA rejected an application from Texas for relief funds after the tornadoes right?

That's a bold claim. In today's era, it's antiquated and archaic. But at the time, can you posit any evidence as to how it was a mistake, in ways that do not include possessing the benefit of hindsight?

Well let's see:

The original design lasted 3 elections, two of which involved Washington, who won half of all the electoral votes. The original design gave electors two votes, and were disallowed from voting for a candidate from the same state as the other. The highest vote getter would become president, and second highest would be vice. The flaws with this system were easily discovered, and minor changes (i.e. voting on a complete ticket) were instituted.

The system was built on the assumption that there would be no political movement influential at state or nationwide levels. This was a dangerously flawed notion that was proven wrong within 8 years after the constitution was adopted. The founders believed that the electoral college would block people who were obviously inappropriate for the presidency. A political party appointing electors has no reason to appoint electors who might not vote for their presidential candidate, or for that matter.

A simple analysis reveals that assuming political parties existed on a state and nationwide level, controlling the state legislatures of the states that composed a majority of the electoral vote would be sufficient to elect any president. Given very slim majorities could control the state legislatures, it's obvious that a minority can elect a president. A president elected by nationwide popular vote could plausibly be installed by a minority of votes, but only if there were more than two candidates, which could be defeated through IRV or some other voting system. In fact, a directly elected president is unnecessary; a parliamentary system that allows congress to appoint the executive could work just as well, if not better.

The fact that it inherently promotes regionalism was evident by the Civil War.

And without it we would end up in a bipolar system where LA and NY make all our decisions. Kinda like the EU with France and Germany.

I would rather the Entire Mid West not end up with the same fate as upstate New York or Kern County
