Honestly I am struggling to make any sense of this, I'm just pretty sure that "socialism is bad" is not the most salient take-away from the tale of a child leading a Nazi cell.

And it shouldn't be. After all it has nothing to do with this news and fact that 13 year old child is that messed up.

Straight from the white nationalist playbook - never try to defend white nationalism, neo-Nazis, or other movements. Instead draw equivalence. So it's not "Nazis aren't bad," it's "sure, Nazis are just as bad as socialists/the antifa/the left". Always attack, never defend. Just keep repeating it again and again.

Very easy to identify, but they don't design these strategies to be used by the brightest of bulbs. You kind of work with what you've got, and what they've got is a lot of free time.
