I'm not sure why they'd want to win the next election anyway. The disasters are likely to keep piling up and Starmer is most likely going to impliment Tory policy while continuing his purge of the left from Labour. Legitimately a snap election that forces Labour to take the lions share of the blame for the coming disaster is probably the best move they could make.Jonathan101 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 7:10 pmIf the Queen refused to appoint someone PM that would be a constitutional crisis.Riedquat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 6:54 pmSomeone who was unpopular enough with the MPs that they kicked him out? A PM has to command the confidence of their Parliamentary party, which Johnson doesn't. Under those circumstances it might even be possible that the Queen wouldn't appoint him PM.Jonathan101 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 6:52 pmThe main concern is Tory supporters and maybe even MPs who prefer Boris Johnson as Prime Minister and honestly think that if they force an election they can get him to come back, and that he'll win it.Riedquat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 6:48 pm Unpopular with the population at large and unpopular with Tory MPs. She'll do well to last a year.
I can't see an election in the coming months, the Tories will lose heavily so why do it? There's always the argument "let Labour have the current mess to deal with" but no party ever willingly gives up power.
A few MPs and even more Tory supporters have said they would rather have Boris than either Liz Truss or even Rishi Sunak. Even the ones who didn't like Boris think he's better than either of those two.
More to the point, they think that Boris is more likely to help them win the next election than Liz Truss is, as he got them their biggest electoral win in ages last time he was in. There is definitely a sense of unease and regret in the Tory party over this.

As a sacrificial pawn. She fills the position temporarily, but will move out when a more desired candidate can take advantage of the situation.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 7:14 pmIn all honesty though, if nobody like Truss or Sunak, not the voters, not even party members, then why was she (s)elected?

Apparently Liz Truss was anti-monarchy when she was younger.
I could almost believe that this has all been an elaborate, decades-in-the-making political assassination and Truss slipped poison in her tea.
