It's a lot easier to get away with murdering black trans women in this country. In my city somebody murdered Nizah Morris after she got a "courtesy ride" from the police over a decade ago and we're still trying to get it investigated properly.clearspira wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 9:46 pmIs there any relevance to her being specifically described as a BLACK trans woman? Was there a racial element to this? Because otherwise that really seems like an irrelevant detail to add. Kind of offensive too actually as one could be led to infer that somehow your skin colour makes your death more or less tragic.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 6:38 pm Related: "The first federal hate crimes trial based on gender identity is starting today for the brutal murder of a Black trans woman.
She was murdered after the killer's friends mocked him for having sex with her."

It’s considered a hate crime if it’s determined that they were targeted on the basis of their identity. The enhanced punishment has to do with the culture at large being targeted, where an individual is predetermined to be a victim due to innate factors. That and there’s a typical marginalized status that factors in.clearspira wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 9:46 pmIs there any relevance to her being specifically described as a BLACK trans woman? Given the fact that people don’t kill other people by conventional civic customs, determining a motive often isn’t that difficult.

Back to the incident in Oklahoma: there may be a cover-up in progress.

I can't get a story, just the headline. That said, my thoughts.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2024 11:59 pm Back to the incident in Oklahoma: there may be a cover-up in progress.

My first, knee jerk reaction is this is rebranding crimes to lesser ones to say things are not as bad. IE Armed robbery reduced to simple theft because the police could not confirm a weapon. So less armed robberies in town.
Now how could this be factual and not a conspiracy. Medicinal reactions. My mother had surgery on her eyes due to glaucoma. First surgery on her weak eye went well and it was better than ever. The second surgery she could barely walk and collapsed several times. The difference was she was prescribed a water pill so she would cry more. The eye doctor and nurses all said water pills have no reactions, they are water pills. When looking up the drug it had interactions with half her medications (they had the list) including Tylenol. It almost killed her because the medical professionals just assumed a drug they regularly used had no side effects.
How does this make the headline accurate? No one dies of 'old age' anymore. They need to be precise, noting heart failure, lung failure, etc. So this person was beaten and went to the hospital. But the injuries were non-fatal, but the hospital screwed up. Then it was not the beating that killed them, legally. This is purely conjecture on what might have occurred. And I am conflicted on which scenario is less uncomfortable. I hope we learn more to clarify things.

Oh yeah, very much so. One of the BIG things that fuelled the Covid conspiracy theories here in the UK was that people were going into hospital with cancer or some other incurable condition, caught Covid, died from it, and then was classed as a Covid death. This despite the fact that those people were either going to die anyway or had their immune systems lowered to the point that ANYTHING could have killed them.Nealithi wrote: ↑Thu Feb 22, 2024 6:40 amI can't get a story, just the headline. The conspiracy theory was that the death figures were being artificially inflated but that wasn't the case at all. What goes down on your death certificate is what finally kills you, not whatever it was that put you in there.

Yeah, this is the school wanting to not get sued. Kid gets beaten within an inch of their life, school denies them an ambulance, then they mysteriously expire the next day.

Oklahoma AG responds to the death, won't even refer to the victim by NAME. Is also trying to downplay the situation.

I presume he realizes that deadnaming them would fly like a lead balloon... but won't compromise his "principals" by NOT deadnaming them. So, "compromise".

What a coward. This is what he and his ilk wanted, he could at least own it.

Okay, NOW they're treating it like it's a homicide... Just as Civil Rights groups started calling for the DOJ to step in...
