One thing that Trump helpfully exposed was virtually the entire Evangelical movement doesn't actually give a shit about anything they claim to care about. Their movement behind him lockstep shows it was always about power and position in society.

Well that's the problem. It's all in black and white. Only the verses they agree with they will take literal, the rest they will spend alot of time reinterpreting into something they can agree with or they just plain ignore it. You bring it up then 'you are saying it out of context' or 'that's not what it means'.

Its just a different form of cherry picking. Years ago, I was one of those who was a bit more militant about my atheism than I am now. I argued with these types of people though my main focus was Creationists and you wouldn't not believe the mental gymnastics they have to do to make Noah's Flood work in their head.

Whether it was Flood itself, the Ark, the animals, the time period or the fact that the human race yet again had to be repopulated through a single family orgy incest. But yeah that is the literal truth but when a paragraph from the Bible promoting abortion? Not literal truth.
