I think that less backroom deals are better in politics. It's the one exception.BridgeConsoleMasher wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 6:42 pmRight. I also get the impression you really don't care for this politician.

You can't "work it out" with people like Pelosi, you either toe her line or you don't.
One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate... and thus defy the tyrannous stars.

Hate to say it but AOC is damaged goods at this point when it comes political stuff. Don't get me wrong, I like her. She speaks her mind and will call out the BS.
People say she is the let's version of MTG. She isn't. MTG is and has been useless except waste time. She shows a severe lack of understanding on what she argues. AOC on the other hand, does her homework.
But she has this image of her in the general public. Sucks though for her.

I got nothing to say here.

I'm dubious on that. See, when someone is known for saying "crazy" things, if they can go back after some time ahs passed and say "hey, look, that thing I said actually did happen!", it can really turn people around on them. Not necessarily of course, sometimes the worst thing you can be is right too early, but AOC is a lot better at public relations than most people who suffer that problem.

Benefit of hindsight 20/20. AOC I think if she stays around, she might be able to get people to forget certain things and maybe even reinvent her.CmdrKing wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 3:19 am I'm dubious on that. I am speaking generally here. To some she is too liberal and to others she is super liberal. She is associated hard with the 'Squad' which in this unofficial group has said controversial things whether you agree with them or not.
Again, I like her.
I got nothing to say here.

Eh, Pelosi is hated so much that people tried to kill her.McAvoy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 2:59 am Hate to say it but AOC is damaged goods at this point when it comes political stuff. Don't get me wrong, I like her. She speaks her mind and will call out the BS.

AOC is hated by the same people.
There's no way anyone would like her.

If AOC was hated enough she would have been voted out of office, except she wasn't. In fact many who voted for Trump actually voted for her as well, which bewildered her. When she asked why they voted for both her and Trump the answers seemed to be generally about how she seemed more authentic than other politicians.

The secret is that at the end of the day, people don't vote policies.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 5:54 am If AOC was hated enough she would have been voted out of office, except she wasn't. I can't remember the last time policies were mentioned in an election. It seems like it is God awful and less awful. Most of the time I feel like I drank the anti-kool aid. So I don't just vote for a party whether I agree or not with them.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 7:30 pmThe secret is that at the end of the day, people don't vote policies.Makeshift Python wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2025 5:54 am If AOC was hated enough she would have been voted out of office, except she wasn't.
