That is, of course, assuming you are not confusing your morality with your own self-interest, which happens all to often.Dragon Ball Fan wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 11:39 pm but I still can't accept that because my moral compass would not allow me to do anything even slightly wrong unless it was for an objective greater good, so I can't imagine anyone else doing so either.
"Man is not a rational animal so much as he is a rationalizing animal"
Robert A. Heinlein.
Granted, that applies to me as much as the next person but it is why i ask the question 'how can you be sure you are not doing exactly the same thing you are accusing me of?' and half the time people act like i just told them i was a gold skinned giant from Venus or something.
In the words of Tim Curry; "take Sir Francis Drake, the Spanish all despise him. But to the British he's a hero, and they idolize him." And this can be said of a lot of historical figures, if you ask 'were they a good guy or a bad guy?' the answer will depend on who you are asking.Madner Kami wrote: ↑Sun Jul 05, 2020 12:23 pm Bad people can do good things. In fact, a lot of historically relevant bad people did bad things in order to do things that they considered good and which could be considered good in the grand scheme of things, obviously unless you are one of the casualties they caused.
Define 'democracy.' It's kinda funny that in 1789, when the constitution came into effect and we official became the 'United States of America,' about three-quarters of my graduating class would not be allowed to vote or even own property, along with about half of my instructors.
Is that your idea of a democracy? Because apparently it was the Found Fathers' idea of one.
