Re: Donald Trump Reloaded!
We shouldn't have a lower house in the legislative branch. We should only be choosing the best to make rules. Lower equals worse.

Used to be voting for the lesser of two evils. Or the way I put it, which would you vote for, cutting off your hand or cutting your arm at the elbow?Riedquat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 8:41 pmI disagree - I think that sort of trying to blame non-voters is a big part of how things have ended up as they are. There's too much of "we don't have to listen, we don't have to try, because you've got to vote for us so that they don't win." Ending up in this situation points to failures of the system, not voters, and it won't improve until that lesson is learned.CharlesPhipps wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 7:58 pmI used to believe that but the people who didn't vote for a shitty option over murdered in the street option are how we got here.
Those who don't vote against Hydra are voting Hydra.
Its not that anymore. Trump is legitimate threat to everything and everyone in this country. What was Biden, Clinton or Harris going to do? More of the same as before? So no threat to abortion, no stacking of the Supreme Court, rights for the trans community, programs for anyone who isn't white for a chance without discrimination, no active threats to foreign friendly countries, and so on.
Its one thing back in 2016 Trump would do certain things but wouldn't go past a point. This time we were practically told what he was going to do, despite half passed denials about it. But less people showed up to vote for Harris than Biden.
Remember about 150 million people showed up to vote out of a population of like 330-340 million. I have seen an estimated population of 240-250 of that can actually vote. So why didn't they?
I get it and I used to say this in defense of those who don't vote. That is your right. I this country your right to vote is just as equal to your right not to vote.
Yes, the Democrats this time around needs to find a young, charismatic, eloquent, smart candidate. But it doesn't change the fact that there was so many non-voters who basicsy feel that nothing will change despite who they vote for. That's a problem.
I got nothing to say here.
Re: Donald Trump Reloaded!
Well the big reason I didn't vote in that election is that I'm not American.
I get what you're saying and I don't disagree with it, but the Democrats really need to take some responsibility because ultimately I do believe it's on them to earn votes, rather than taking them for granted, that they've got an automatic right to votes no matter what they do, simply because they're not Trump - thinking that is a level of arrogance that would befit Trump.
I've often not voted here because I utterly loathe what all the mainstream parties want to do, and the minor ones are lunatics of various sorts. Admittedly we've never had anyone as bad as Trump, not even Boris Johnson.

Re: Donald Trump Reloaded!
I've got to ask you guys a question now that you've all had time to think about it: would Biden have done better than Harris?
I think ''better the devil you know'' may have garnered a significant amount of votes. As it is, Harris was unproven and untested by a Primary and that really seemed to hack a lot of people off. I do not think that Harris would have won it tbh. I get that the Dems were short on time, but my 20/20 hindsight opinion is that they should have stuck with '46 and watched what happened.

Probably not after that golf quip during the debate.

Clearspira, you yourself were on the "Biden is too old and senile" train. Harris's biggest failing on the campaign trail was not doing mor to distance herself from Biden.

She basically had to come up with a keynote campaign and it took 3/2's too long.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 3:44 pm Clearspira, you yourself were on the "Biden is too old and senile" train. I think that her best bet would have been taking more of Biden's policies and just taking an active president approach with her own flare on how to do it. Then she could have hit the ground running and just bullied support for something that she could claim under the condition that she could follow through during the administration for someone else's project before transitioning to her own direct platform.
Aside from the assassination attempt Trump was basically hang gliding in. His policies had time to ruminate and circulate among the right wing base while there was no discussion on the left about Harris's policies.

Re: Donald Trump Reloaded!
I basically blame the Democrats who stabbed Biden in the back and consider them to have handed the country to Trump.
John Stewart, George Clooney, and Pelosi were a bunch of idiots who thought the majority of the country were plugged into the social media bullshit that they were not. They stabbed Biden, a man who BEAT TRUMP SOUNDLY, in the back and won the day for fascism.
Worse, they refuse to admit their cuplability and just go, "If only Harris had been EVEN MORE anti-Biden."
It's like when Al Gore refused to let Bill campaign for him despite the man's massive popularity in the South.

Re: Donald Trump Reloaded!
Part of it came from... Biden was not that bad a president. Sure, he should have been stricter on Israel... by being strict, period. He should have stopped being so nice to crazy bastards. The man clearly never wanted everyone to get along but he was living in a dream world or knew that if he didn't do that, nothing would get done. But holy fuck, he was a breath of fresh air of being a LEADER compared this farce. Biden, at his worst, was leagues better than Trump. People complain he wasn't a superhero, and sure, I want a president who saves America, but I also am in my 30's, so I recognize reality means you get what you get, and the man delivered. Could he have done more, even with everyone fighting him tooth and nail? Sure. But the man had a spine. The DNC doesn't, and if Trump did, he sold it to daddy for power.

So Trump got absolutely nothing from Mexico or Canada but he's unilaterally declaring victory in his stupid trade war already.
