So am I the only Trump hater who is not unhappy about the outcome? I mean, I really hate the guy and want to see him removed from office, but I also like to know that the sitting president isn't directly working with a foreign power to rig an election. Impeachment takes a long time too, unlike Nixon he isn't smart enough to resign when the writing is on the wall.
He lost the popular vote and he probably got a lot of votes based on some pretty bad information (which is nothing new, ask Hearst), but his win is still much more valid than Bush's in 2000. Let him serve his term, let the country decide in 2020 what to do with him, and then when he is a private citizen again let the courts decide whether he gets to be the first former president to serve prison time. It would be a fitting cap to his legacy.

Yeah, and let Democrats do some good, long soul-searching on how to challenge him next. God, we can be so gullible sometimes...

As for prison time, my view on that is simple: Trump isn't Nixon. If the latter could escape with everything that was against him, you honestly think a man with the legion of high priced lawyers that Trump could buy is going down? And he only needs a sympathetic Republican president coming in after him to get that pardon - especially if they think that they will lose votes for going against a man who like it or not still commands great support from his own followers.Zoinksberg wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 1:45 pm So am I the only Trump hater who is not unhappy about the outcome? I get why it may be a nice fantasy to people who don't like the man, but its not happening.

Don't attempt the ''vote for me because I am the box-ticker'' approach again would be my advice. Neither Prime Minister Thatcher nor May went that route in Britain; they got in on policies alone. That is one of the things that is potentially about to end May's run as it happens: policies. She was given the exact same shake as any man and failed on her promise to deliver Brexit on time - which is how an equal society should be.

Yup. The "progressive" media is still saying this doesn't actually prove there was no collusion even as they cry about their fantasy of the President being impeached disappearing like a fart in the wind.
Much like Obama, I don't hate the man, I simply disagree with the majority of his politics, though Obama tended to be a lot less of a blowhard. I suppose the thing Trump has going for him is that he is entirely straightforward when compared to most politicians. I will continue to reference him as the God Emperor, though.

Yes, because Nixon was one of the most skilled political operators to ever live and Trump is a moron. Also most lawyers won't work with Trump due to his habit of not paying them, and his last lawyer is going to prison in just over a month.clearspira wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 3:07 pmAs for prison time, my view on that is simple: Trump isn't Nixon. And Gerald Ford. Y'know, he helped just a teeny bit with getting Nixon off the hook too. Oh, and if Nixon was so awesome, he wouldn't have been caught. But go ahead with that nonsense.Draco Dracul wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 11:39 pmYes, because Nixon was one of the most skilled political operators to ever live and Trump is a moron. Re: Mueller Investigation Notes
You know, this really could have been avoided if the DNC leadership had been strong-willed enough to just kick Sanders to the curb and come down on him like the hammer he thinks is comparable to a gun long before the convention. We needed time to heal, to unite the party, the holy saint of purity himself refused to do so. Oh he claims he helped her try to win, but it was always literally through his teeth, to the point his hard-line voters knew he was being forced into it. Imo, they should have started coming out harder against him after March 15th. That was the point it was impossible for him to win. Super Tuesday pretty much showed he doesn't appeal to minorities, women, and voters over a certain again, and that he had no chance. But noooooo, they just trusted these spoiled brats wouldn't be stupid enough to willingly throw the election to Trump, but then, they underestimate how hateful they are. Many are accelerationists, as I've said, who'd love to see the system burn down, no matter how many suffer and die, because then it means they think we can build a new, better world out of the ashes. Fucking hate them.

See it was an attempt to avoid a situation like 2000 or 2004 where the front runner hitting hard created lingering bad blood in the party. Of course being a vain crank, Sanders proceed to barely support Clinton even after getting substantial portions of what he was campaigning on added to the Democratic platform. On a personal level, I don't like his record on immigration, and populism in the US is so very deeply tied into racism.Yukaphile wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 3:14 am You know, this really could have been avoided if the DNC leadership had been strong-willed enough to just kick Sanders to the curb and come down on him like the hammer he thinks is comparable to a gun long before the convention. I don't want the system to burn down, but I think it's going to due to a mix of bad actors rigging the system (like say the Wisconsin Assembly where the GOP got less than 45% of the votes, but more than 60% of the seats, or North Carolina which has been labeled a failed democracy) and the fact that our democracy is the alpha version that's had to be kept together with shoestrings and hope because the updater was poorly written.
