And of course we tend to blame Russia for having them, though I think in the end we should all acknowledge that what we're really trashing is systematic decay that doesn't take care of its citizens, and abuse of power by the elite. Those who exploit it for personal gain or use that to justify behaving like animals, well, deserve utter scorn, but at the same time we need to acknowledge the societal influences that lead to that. Make it easier to improve the lives for all so that we can all be "saints in paradise," to quote Sisko.

That "systematic decay that doesn't take care of its citizens, and abuse of power by the elite" applies to modern USA really well because of how it's system is stacked in favor of elite in disguise of freedom.
