Youtube removes the dislike button

I'm scared to see what people will actually say in the comments instead of just hitting like/dislike.

I have seen a number of videos where the comments are turned off as well. So. . .

Sadly, enough people will abuse a five-star rating system that going to a trinary system (Like/Dislike/No Vote) was probably the right way to go.
I don't remember hearing it being abused when they had it. Then again, YouTube isn't nearly as big as it is now.
I got nothing to say here.

It's "abused" in that people's votes tend towards the poles and not the middle. Consider Amazon reviews as a comparison; how often do you see middling numbers?

Not often. But I do see them. I prefer those over the one star or five star reviews. They tend to be more honest. Though the one stars are useful if they are complaining about the same thing though.
I got nothing to say here.

Reviews can sometimes be misleading and some seem stupid. But what criteria should say a one or a five star review be given?

Like most of my views I have some anecdotes on it.

A while back I bought a foot rest for under my desk. It had pictures, it explained it was a collapsible rest for storage. And gave the dimensions. I chose it because it had dimensions that fit.
The five star reviews were brainless "Its wonderful!" "Best footstool ever!"
The one star reviews were entitled. "This thing is too tiny. I wanted to store a couple comforters in it but they won't fit." (Gee did you read the size?) "This thing is cheap cardboard crap. I tried to stand on it to hang things on the ceiling and it broke!" (Literally gave how much weight it can hold. Like you know resting your feet or a small child. Not a ladder.)

Can't have dislikes. That's negative and toxic and we need to be positive and embracing! (insert whatever other pathetic buzzwords that might occur to you).

Hopefully the scornful sarcasm is obvious.

I've never heard of a five-star system in which people didn't tend to use the extremes only to register their opinions.

Everything is like that though. Any sort of rating system. No system is perfect.
I got nothing to say here.
