IPBA Statement on Jussie Smollett Case Dismissal
http://www.ilpba.org/announcements/7249825
"The manner in which this case was dismissed was abnormal and unfamiliar to those who practice law in criminal courthouses across the State. Prosecutors, defense attorneys, and judges alike do not recognize the arrangement Mr. Smollett received. Even more problematic, the State’s Attorney and her representatives have fundamentally misled the public on the law and circumstances surrounding the dismissal."

So this is all a set-up to further the dangerous and evil anti-lynching agenda?G-Man wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 1:02 am Does anyone else think it is weird that a high-profile "lynching" was attempted just before a bill to make lynching a federal crime was introduced into Congress, a bill who signing is a major part of launching two presidential campaigns (Booker and Harris)? Then, after evidence emerges that this was a set-up, the guy who allegedly sets it up up gets off with essentially a slap on the wrist and the case file is sealed?

No, it's a set-up to promote the careers of Cory Booker and Kamala Harris. The anti-lynching law is unobjectionable, but largely unnecessary, as states no longer wink at lynching. It was largely passed for symbolic reasons, and the practical goal was to give Booker and Harris a legislative accomplishment they could point to.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 4:29 amSo this is all a set-up to further the dangerous and evil anti-lynching agenda?G-Man wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 1:02 am Does anyone else think it is weird that a high-profile "lynching" was attempted just before a bill to make lynching a federal crime was introduced into Congress, a bill who signing is a major part of launching two presidential campaigns (Booker and Harris)? You are kidding, right? Assuming for a moment that this is indeed a ploy to get votes for these two and I am not saying that is the case, then the public got mislead by instigating a crime, inciting a witch hunt after people who don't exist, influencing public opinion in a really underhanded way and feeding hysteria and paranoia at the cost of a part of the population and thus destabilizing society at large, by widening the gaps in an already split society.
You really do see nothing wrong with that? Wow. Just wow.

Yeah Fuzzy geez.
Though I don't find much weight in the matter considering I never really put much stock into the politics of the matter. Only reason this case matters to the nation is because he's a celebrity. Therefore when people are pissing because he's let off after lying about such a thing that got everybody riled up, that's on them.

So, this happened.
And people wonder why the Chicago police have an image problem.

A symbolic lynching law to promote two politicians' careers is not sinister.Fuzzy Necromancer wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 5:07 amAnd that is horrible and sinister because...?G-Man wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 4:39 am No, it's a set-up to promote the careers of Cory Booker and Kamala Harris. Staging a hate crime to promote the bill is horrible and sinister.
