It's been a gesture of good faith for a long time. Plus the narcissism and the general "don't you dare question ME!" attitude is consistent between them both. And it's kind of an inversion in that Trump is probably not as rich as he claims, and Sanders is richer than he looks, or tries to pretend he is to his hipster crowd.
