Remind me, who and what makes a government, a government in a democracy?

People who gerrymander district lines? Lobbyists? The born-rich who can afford a fucktillion dollars worth of campaign ads?

For my part though? I AM trying to do what little I can. I cut my six-pack rings. I recycle. I eat vegetarian. I'm trying to grow some bee-friendly plants.

It's just that my miniscule amount of power and agency is swashed by the super-rich, super-powerful people who each have droves of workers that they can condemn to a slow death by starvation on a whim.

Too bad most of those people live in China, and the Chinese do not give a F*CK about the environment.
What's the point in tying one hand behind your back if the Chinese will destroy the world anyway AND get fabulously wealthy while they do it.

As for your Nanny State solution, it would help if all the "green" economies of the world (California and western Europe) displayed any sort of planning or the least bit of understanding of how power production works. California is shutting down its last nuclear plant and several natural gas plants while building more solar (not wind) and making grandiose claims about power storage (as if batteries arn't produce in those very same pollution belching factories). Europe on the other hand can't seem to get it through their thick heads that building solar panels in places where it is cloudy and rains a lot is a bad idea. Looking at France, the only thing adding more "green" production did was raise electricity prices and increase demand for natural gas, because power storage doesn't work and the sun only shines most of the day.

It's all purely political grandstanding and not actually solving the problem. Nuclear power plants exist. They do what you want them to. But politicians won't build them because it's not about solving the problem it's about garnering votes from "green" ideologs.

Ford and other american auto magnates whined about "unfair competition" so the government propped up these failing dinosaurs.

Gasoline is a hugely expensive fuel for transport, but government subsidies keep the price artificially low so automobiles can keep out competing other means of transport.

Trolleys were a much better way to get around cities, but then the automobile and petrol industry decided to buy up most of America's trolley systems and trash them so they could be replaced with gas-guzzling cars and buses.

Your analysis of "consumer choice" utterly fails to take into account brute force and crony capitalism.
Well, if by "subsidies" you mean national defense, you might have a point about the gasoline. Is that what you meant?

You can read about the streetcar conspiracy here but, in short, don't take your political points from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The streetcar business was struggling for a long time.

An extremely good argument in favor of a free market. Could it be? Have you seen the light and become libertarian?
