So basically, G-Man, you think that we should run on pure blood-right nativism?

OK. I guess that I, a white man, should leave America and go back to my homeland of...somewhere in Europe, and spend the 1/16 of my time that's proportional to my approximate Native American blood (Potawatomi great-great grandparent on my mother's side) here in the States? The blacks should all be deported to Africa? All the Poles and Irish and Italians and Germans who fueled our meteoric manufacturing boom in the 19th century were wastes of oxygen? All the Chinese who built half our major railroads weren't worth their salaries? The Mexicans who've picked our fruit for decades upon decades didn't deserve fair pay or a labor union?

Good point. The only possible positions on these issues are the most extreme ones on either side.

All immigration is the same, all historical periods are the same, all people are the same, and so we need to base all of our policies on what worked 150 years ago.

Either we need to have an entirely monoethnic state of WASPs only, or else we can simply import as many people as we want to from anywhere in the world, and 12 years of schooling will make them all the same.

Moderate policy based on the idea that you can only assimilate so many at a time is not even to be considered, considering that perhaps the more dissimilar people are, the harder assimilation will be, none of that nuance is allowed.

Blood-right nativism. He's saying that we need to stop people from immigrating here because they won't assimilate, despite the patently obvious historical evidence to the contrary. Basically, only people born in the USA have a right to live in the USA, and the longer you've lived here the more right you have (so taking that to its logical extreme, only Native Americans have any right to be here).

He's claiming that not all immigration is the same because he doesn't like people who aren't white English-speakers and doesn't want people who aren't white and/or whose first language isn't American English to live in America.

Which is the attitude that European countries have, and in fact his ideology is not dissimilar from France's approach to immigrants, which is basically "you can live here if you speak perfect French with a Parisian accent and act like a perfect French citizen and maybe you can whiten your skin while you're at it? We're not racist, we just don't approve of the cultures of you insufficiently white people who we were literally murdering 60-70 years ago to stop your countries from leaving our empire."

When did Trump say he wanted only white immigrants? When did G-Man? If someone attacks an argument that the other side didn't make, it's a straw man.

A liberal pro-immigration advocate would probably call G-Man's take on assimilation and what not a bit misguided. First generation immigrants understandably retain customs that might serve as some sort of cultural barrier. The second generation obviously is a different story, but collectives can obfuscate assimilation, understandably. That's been the case since America started though, and I wouldn't call these claims antithetical to liberals, but practically antithetical to Americanism. America is the leading country of immigration for hundreds of years.

I don't really see his line of reasoning verging into extremism. Maybe radical depending on how severely he wants immigration reduced as per American precedence, but not radical in comparison to standards set by other countries.

That's a pretty weird argument to use for the current boarder issue as culturally Latin American peoples aren't that far removed as they are firmly western in culture, Christian in religion due to the Spanish conquest, and speak a catagory one language.
