You're closer than you think as the German left was very pro Gay rights and Weimer German was where research into trans people started. Yes, the Weimar Dynasty was so degenerate they turned Germany Fascist out of spite. Really interesting that you blame the people pushing for positive change rather than conservatives that were willing to work with the Nazis when they assumed it would only be the Social Democrats and Communists that would get got. It's equally interesting that you are blaming the progressives rather that republicans who have refused to stop the rise of fascism in their party, opting again and again to side against democracy in the name of holding on to power just a little longer. It ultimately sounds like you believe that way to defeat fascists is to give into their demands. Paul von Hindenburg was convinced of that, it lead directly to Hitler ceasing power when in the previous election the Nazis were starting to lose steam to the point were it not for the fact that Hitler was Chancellor and able to enact mass violence against his opponents in the wake of the Reichstag Fire, the Nazi party would have likely started to fall apart.
