There are so many ''up-your-arse'' types on Twitter who think that check mark gives you some kind of extreme legitimacy when sprouting their opinions that by making it paid for all you are now proving is that you have $20 to spare. Beautiful. I like him already.
Given Twitter only introduced the verification thing because they were sued when this guy got impersonated by someone on twitter, who proceeded to post all sorts of inflamatory shit, this seems ill-advised. Especially given that if they did manage to sell this to a fifth of Twitter's user base for a year it'd still be a drop in the bucket.

In common language, “hate speech” refers to offensive discourse targeting a group or an individual based on inherent characteristics (such as race, religion or gender) and that may threaten social peace.
I know this may be a bit much for you non-Americans to grasp, but we established the First Amendment specifically to protect communication that "threatened social peace".

All that definition says is that offensive things that people aren't willing to riot against are fine but accurate and truthful things that people will respond to with violence are forbidden.

There's also the fact that Twitter is inconsistent in its policies. They could easily create a program that would filter out all of the hate speech that is posted online and never have to police their own site. However, the problem is that this would end up hitting a bunch of Right Wing politicians.

You are kidding yourself if you think that its only right-wingers who benefit from inconsistent punishments on hate speech. There are literal pedos, rapists and murderers who are allowed to peddle shit on Twitter freely and openly - on the same platform that banned Trump because he is ''dangerous''.

And its also true that some hate speech is socially acceptable with BLM and feminists allowed to say things about whites and men that would NEVER be allowed the other way around. I found it interesting a few pages back the idea that the N-word is on the rise on Twitter as the only people I see use the term regularly are black people - which they are freely allowed to do.

Lets be honest about this. If you are part of a certain protected group, you can say whatever the hell you like regardless of how you try and frame it.

I'm sorry, I have to stop you there. Trump is an actual murderer. Not just inciting a riot but he okayed the murder of Kashoggi.

He has plead guilty to stealing money from his charities for veterans and children.

He spread horrific misinformation and stole supplies during the pandemic that killed people.

He has stolen documents from the White House and many of them are missing.

How the FUCK do you not believe he's dangerous that it deserves to be in fucking quotes?

I was hearing old men give this exact rant (minus Twitter and BLM by name) thirty years ago. I don't think it was new then either.

They used more slurs though, I'll give you that.

It was just as true then, too. Human nature, including hypocrisy and self-delusion, hasn't changed.

And Obama has the blood of thousands of civilians on his hands due to drone strikes and the invasion of Libya. And Bush through Iraq and Afghanistan. If your evidence that Trump is dangerous is that he okayed a murder (apparently) then that is not convincing me as all of your presidents have the body count of a comic book villain.

You haven't actually tried to refute what I said, just that its an old argument. Interesting.
