My reaction to that sort of thing:

Me: My God, someone tried to kill Nancy Pelosi's husband.

Guy: BUT WHAT ABOUT BLACK LIVES MATTER?

Me: What the fuck does that have to do with anything?

Guy: I DONT WANT TO FEEL BAD FOR DEMOCRATS

I note that the Democrats have largely controlled society since the 1970s; government and society have been much closer to what the Democrats claim they want than to what Republicans claim they want.

The Democrats are also a collection of smaller groups that have thrown their lot together in the name of collective interests, but they're also known for betraying each other and the most extreme interests in the group are subgroup-specific.

I don't actually agree, but not because society is what the Republicans want it to be. The fact that I, a gay trans Latina communist, am still alive is testament to that. It's because the Democrats, at least the ones in power, don't really want anything. They want things to stay the same, for mostly the same forever. Like the single most infuriating thing about a lot of really committed Democrats is that they refuse to admit that things are getting worse.

You're insane. You've gone far beyond simple error into the mouth of madness.

How so? The Republican party is currently forcibly detransition trans kids in a huge number of states while also trying to push up the definition of child to include people that are at least 25.

The Republican party has made it very clear that gays aren't welcome in their party and are almost certainly going to push for a ban on gay marriage when they're next in power

And I've lived with extremely prevalent anti-immigration rhetoric that when pushed always turns out to also be anti-Hispanic bigotry. For instance the fact that Trump was trying to argue for change of venue for the Trump University lawsuit because the judge was Hispanic.

To be fair on the last one, the Democrats would also happily kill all communist as communism is directly opposed to liberalism.

Cis-Pan, autistic, Irish-Dutch, Socialist here and I fully agree. It's ironic that the party of "conservation" has become the DEMOCRATIC party, while the Republicans have gone all-in on xenophobia-induced, greed-fueled, regression.

It's not like it's a secret or something they're embarrassed by. That's who the new MAGA dominated Republican party openly and constantly tell us they are and the message they push in political ads, CPAC, and the media outlets they control. They're proud of it.

You're taking the very worst elements of a very diverse group, and then stereotyping the entire group as though they were the nutter loonies.

If you caught your opponents doing that, you'd quite rightly denounce them as bigots.

I don't hate conservatives but I live in Kentucky so I am quite happy to say the current GOP party leadership is bigoted, evil, and against democracy. I can list all of the policies they've supported that have had a direct and violent effect on the people of my state.

And I can blame the people who voted them in.

When people are worried about violence against trans people and the GOP lies and said that laws protecting them will be used to protect kids who think they're cats, it's objectively true you can call these people bigots and liars.
