Speaker of the house position up for grabs.

In theory, they'd be someone a majority of the House can stomach.

Things are currently sufficiently broken that this is no longer the case.
The house voted unanimously for a guy who looks like Bizarro pretending to be Clark Kent.

Only the Republicans. The House vote was not unanimous.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I didn't mean a simple majority, but in the colloquial sense of "considerably more than half" to "most".

This guy was the first one to not struggle to even meet a simple majority, and it was seemingly only the case due to all of the political preparation behind closed doors.

Well the guy is super religious, ultra conservative. He was basically a nobody before this as well. He became Speaker because the Right voted him in.

Like I said before, usually when you have the majority you vote your person in and the minority doesn't. It's hardly ever a bipartisan vote in.

Curious on how he will perform when it comes to do his job versus upholding his religious views.
I got nothing to say here.

Since Mike Johnson was elected, he's basically opened up his closet to reveal more skeletons than Grim Fandango.

* No bank account or stocks
* Considers homosexuality to be akin to incest or bestiality
* Is against birth control as well as abortion
* Was part of Trump's coup attempt on January 6th
* Is utterly against any support for Ukraine or Tawain

Other than the bank account thing those are all mainstream Republican positions. You hear worse at any given CPAC speech.

Whether or not they're mainstream or not, it's enough to be pretty disgusted by the guy and want him nowhere near the Speakership.

You were going to get the same no matter what Republican was in the spot is my point. You can't get elected to office as a Republican if you don't at least pretend to believe all of that filth.

Without the MAGA-crowd, the Republicans don't have enough votes to get a speaker appointed. And the MAGA-crowd are and were never going to accept anyone even remotely moderate, who may get some crucial democrat votes, so the Republicans were of course going to vote an extremist into the position. I don't get surprise. It's like opening the hatch in your space station and being surprised that you can't breath anymore. Relying on the air in your space station taking a moderate stance and not explosively evacuating itself... that's just not how reality works.

There is more. He is basically a step above what you would normally hear even from CPAC speeches.

His wife is pretty out there too. Some super Christian therapy thing where you get grouped in different types. Something that came out of the 80's.

Like I said, I wonder how much he will bend for the government when it comes to his personal religious views. Or will he not bend at all?
I got nothing to say here.
