Nealithi wrote: Wed Dec 27, 2023 7:50 pmSo I have a question. How does the attack on the Lusitania figure into Manifest Destiny?
I don't follow. What are you asking for?
You said in your comment that as an American we would think we fought for democracy etc. But we actually entered the war because good old Manifest Destiny and the like. But what I had been taught was we had no treaties in the war and were staying out of it till the Lusitania was torpedoed.
The bravado of the war is mostly weighted in the capitalization that came about from the industrial revolution. Every country except for Austria and Serbia and the Ottoman Empire were basically just heavies fighting in a conflict centering around 2 monarch states in a royalty feud.

Yeah history books don't even touch on Wilson's racism. He allowed segregation to happen within his administration where even in DC the black middle class was rising and I think about 10% of Federal jobs were by taken by black people. Even his New World Order he was trying to make after the war heavily favored the White Europe.

All of this whitewashed in history books as this peaceful man who wanted to bring peace to the world and only entered the war because of the telegraph to Mexico from Germany.
I got nothing to say here.

You say "allowed to happen" as if he wasn't an active participant. When black professionals protested Wilson said “segregation is not a humiliation but a benefit, and ought to be so regarded by you gentlemen.” He personally fired all but two of the 17 black supervisors who had been appointed to federal positions during the Taft administration.

I think that that’s what “allowing to happen” means?

Wilson didn't just "allow" it to happen, he made it happen. He wasn't a bystander who just chose not to stop it, he was the primary instigator of it.

Makes sense honestly. that’s just different from what you were saying.

I don't see how.

Defending something isn’t the same as instigating it.

But I do see now that mccavoy was talking about Wilson’s administration. So firing 87% of the workers is pretty overt.

I typed this at night right before bed. Technically allowing to happen is correct, technically. Probably should have said 'made segregation happen' in his administration.

Well I hope you feel greatly ashamed of that communication gaff.
