Also it should be noted he's disappearing people. Mahmoud Khalil is only one of the immigrants with full legal status being snatched away without charges or trial. He sent a bunch of green card holders and other legal residents to a gulag in El Salvador as well.

I said this on another post about police brutality and I'll say it here.

I don't care if any of these people are guilty or innocent. I do not. I don't care if Trump deported a loving community leader who gave to charity, a firefighter who saved hundreds of lives, and protected people from drug dealers vs a bastard who rapes and eats kids. I do not CARE. I am aghast that he is deporting people WITHOUT due process and law to a foreign prison that is now going slave labor on these people. It is DESPICABLE what he is doing, and those who support it are bastards. No one, not congress or the supreme court, should have the power to deport someone without a reason, and you bring said reason to court where the person can fight it. Would I want to deport guys who eat kids? Sure, hell yeah, to where they SHOULD be, not 'Well he's deported to El Salvador cause haha, reasons!' Deporting good people who are LEGALLY ALLOWED TO BE HERE AND SOME WERE EVEN FUCKING BORN HERE is equally as bad, and I despise anyone who accepts this as a way of life.

Hard same. He shouldn't be able to do this. Nobody should be deported without charges or trial. And anyone who thinks it'll stop with immigrants is a fool.

Already his definition of "immigrants" includes people who have immigrated legally, have no criminal records, and so on.

Call it what it is. A labour camp where people who the state defines as "unworthy" are concentrated. It's a concentration camp. They began like that here as well. First various assortments of disagreeable people and the scope broadended by the day.

I genuinely never realised just how much power the American president has until the last few months. You couldn't get away with half of this shit in a Parliamentary or Coalition-based democracy. Is this power that has accumulated over the years and no one checked it or has the US President always had this level of power?

I don't mean this to be rude and I mean that sincerely because it's not as if the UK doesn't have a million problems, i'm just making the observation that the US system has proven itself to be nowhere near as able to lock out a king as I assume the Founding Fathers hoped that it was. I wouldn't suggest that it was bad design on their part, more that they lived in a time with a different class of people.
It's mostly this cult of personality that Trump has been building for decades coupled with an increasingly radical conservatism. I think if any other president tried to pull this crap they would constantly be challenged by the courts and the states with their own party telling them to just give it up.

How much authority the president has is one of those perennial issues that goes all the way back to George Washington. In theory the constitution outlines what powers the president does and does not have, just like with congress and the supreme court, but issues have cropped up over the last 200 years because the people who wrote the constitution couldn't think of everything. So the question of where presidential authority begins and ends has been an issue that every administration has had to deal with.

Most of the time when a president wants to issue an executive order they have a long meeting with their legal experts before they sign it.

I have said this before. This all started with Reagan. He started this whole billionaire CEOs know what they are doing because they made that money. Politicians shouldn't be trusted. At the time it was subtle.

It all came ahead with Trump being self claimed billionaire who made himself into the public eye through whatever he could. Interviews, his reality show, hell even appearances on American wrestling shows. He created this brand that if you knew nothing about him, made you think he knew what he was doing.

It was only those who paid attention in the past 30-40 years on how he actually did business. If that ever came to light let's say back in 2005 to country wide public, where how his real empire worked, then perhaps it wouldnt have gotten so far back in 2015.

Also remember MAGA didn't come out nowhere, it came from groups like the Tea Party group when Obama was in office. The so called Divider in Office. Make the White Office White Again. And so forth. It was all there. They just needed a voice. So they got Trump.

A perfect storm for American conservatives. All the while, Democrats were playing by the same rules of when Bush was in office and before. That is also it's own thing too that the Democrats needs to look into themselves. Ten years of Trump running for president. Clinton was a failure. Biden should have been a one time deal, but honestly a better alternative should have been brought forward. Biden showing his age at a debate and that panicked the Democrats. Forcing Harris to be the front runner and not being able to distance herself from Biden. Among other things. More controversial things.
I got nothing to say here.

Trump has hinted about how he is going to go about his third term - he is basically going to let Vance run with him as VP and then have him just hand the presidency back to Trump. I guess that depends a lot on how well the Republicans are tracking in four years time.

Also this:

Trump said: “I'm not looking at that but I'll tell you, I have had more people ask me to have a third term, which in a way is a fourth term because the other election, the 2020 election was totally rigged, so it's actually sort of a fourth term. I just don't want the credit for the second because Biden was so bad, he did such a bad job, and I think that's one of the reasons that I'm popular, if you want to know the truth.

“I think I'm popular because we've done a great job. I think we've had the best hundred days of almost any president. Most people are saying that and it's an honor, bringing back our country. We're respected as a country again. We're strongly respected and people are amazed.”

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum told Fox News host Lara Trump that he “certainly” believes there’s room on Mount Rushmore for President Trump’s face, in an interview that aired on Saturday.

“The Department of Interior is in charge of the National Park Service,” Lara Trump said. “The National Park Service is in charge of Mount Rushmore. A lot of people wonder, will we ever see President Trump’s face on Mount Rushmore? What do you think?”

“Well, they certainly have room for it there,” replied Mr Burgum, who was brought on the show to discuss his accomplishments since President Trump returned to office and topics related to his department.

The interview comes days after President Trump gave Burgum the power to decide whether public monuments, statues, or memorials removed under Biden give a “false construction” of American history.

Trump previously floated the idea at a 2017 rally, where he asked a cheering crowd: “I’d ask whether or not you think I will someday be on Mount Rushmore.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, then running for South Dakota governor, also said in a 2018 interview that President Trump told her it was his “dream” to be placed alongside former presidents on the monument.

The movement to engrave his face gained momentum when a panel of Fox News contributors on “Outnumbered” supported the idea as a commemoration of the country’s founding.

“If you did, like, the 250th anniversary of the country at Mount Rushmore with President Trump’s face, it would be epic,” the President’s former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Outnumbered.

In January this year, Republican congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna introduced a bill seeking to carve President Trump’s face into the monument.

“His remarkable accomplishments for our country and the success he will continue to deliver deserve the highest recognition and honor on this iconic national monument. Let's get carving,” Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said on X, formerly Twitter.

Which wouldn't work legally. All the restrictions applying to the President, also apply to the Vice President. We all know they don't care about the law, so this will be no deal-breaker for them, but that's a bit too roundabout a way to make it happen.
