I still haven't begun to absorb the idea of the possibility that the closest acting professional body to the president, chosen directly by the president, could somehow keep the president in power in our system of checks and balances.

Chris Christie has said that Trump surrounded himself with snake oil salesmen (which is apparent) who fed him dainty institutional information regarding Pence's authority, and I feel that acting on that would be a new low for Trump's intelligence, all of which I mostly have trouble comprehending.

I mean, Pence couldn't overturn the election. Dan Quayle of all people said it was impossible and if Trump TRIED to do it, they would have had to have escorted him out and it would be up to the cops and military to support the President (Joe Biden).

But he thought he could because there's never been a situation Trump didn't think by saying he won instead of lost didn't work out because of his lawyers or money.

I dunno man, I don't know what's possible any more. I spent the four years of 45's presidency learning that lots of things we thought were enforceable laws had just been gentleman's agreements that anyone with enough chutzpah could just ignore.

What's your take now?

I can't say it wasn't ugly. I didn't really know how the investigation was going to turn out, but I never thought of anything he did as a smoking gun really.

He may not have fired the gun but he certainly greased it, loaded it and waved it around. And perhaps even pointed it.

He stated during the 2016 election that he would fight it if he lost. Then there were all his Trump rallies he did in during his presidency speaking off of the cuff. You could write a book about it which I am sure many are.

You have to think though what was his goal from losing the election to the riot or insurrection or whatever you want to call it? What was that goal? He wanted to win obviously. How serious was he?

He's basically chanting it on as he's being walked off stage generically by the process.
