This one is just funny.

https://www.theverge.com/2022/5/2/23053 ... john-deere

Russian troops looted a bunch of John Deere farm equipment, shipped it 700 miles away, and only then found out the company (which has been famous for the controversies around its DRM sceme for more than a decade) bricked it all remotely.
...for space is wide, and good friends are too few.

Even if the Russian people are outright lied to constantly by their government, more-educated people tend to able to understand English and will have access to international reporting - unless Russia has managed to arrange something like China's Great Firewall. And tech-savvy people get around *that* all the time.

If the bulk of Russians know what's going on then they are the same breed of bystander coward that saluted Hitler and frankly unworthy of our respect.

Ultimately that is how men like Putin and Hitler get away with it. We all like to think that we're the hero don't we? All like to think that we would do the right thing in a crunch. But most of us won't. Most of us wouldn't hide Anne Frank or join the underground. We just close our ears, shut our eyes, and smile when someone brings home a nice piece of bricked farming equipment.

I understand - but until I've been in a situation where I and my family would face retaliation if I didn't salute, I would be loath to judge them. It's easy to praise courage when one is not afraid.

This is pretty much a certain. It wouldn't surprise me if there was an actual poll about trust of their government that majority would say no. Russians are not dumb, they see the same stuff we all see.
I got nothing to say here.

Meanwhile, Biden is pushing for another military aid bill to support Ukraine.

Right now it seems like a war of attrition; who out lasts who? That kind of fight comes down to a matter of resources, determination and outside support. Ukraine is being backed by most of the NATO members, although to varying degrees, so who is supporting Russia at this point?

Nobody. China is kinda helping here and there, but only in homeopathic dosages in form of military rations.

It’s probably been said before in the thread, but it seems like China mostly wants Russia not to *completely* collapse so they can start doing business there in their preferred manner (that is, from a position of ridiculous advantage where they end up owning everything of value) rather have having to try and navigate some ridiculous warlord fiefdom war.

Back in March, as the international aid began coming into Ukraine and sanctions on Russia started taking affect, there was concern that China could be a means for Russia to bypass the sanctions but that does not seem to be the case, at least not on any significant scale.
"We have not seen the PRC provide direct military support to Russia’s war on Ukraine or engage in systematic efforts to help Russia evade our sanctions"
I think if this was Helmsdeep, China would be Treebeard "I'm not altogether on anyone's side, because no one is altogether on my side!"
