Perfidity is a very particular form of treachery. It's the name for the behavior of showing signs of surrender (white flags, etc.) then massacring the opposing side when they approach. It's traditionally been considered one of the most vile forms of betrayal precisely because it makes it much harder to get people to accept attempts at surrender.

If Russia has been perfidious, that in itself justifies not accepting further attempts at surrender. Also, Ukraine doesn't have the resources to handle prisoners, particularly as there are so many more Russians soldiers. If Russians want to escape this war, they can do something productive like turn their weapons against their commanders and so on.

That makes sense. I was just under the impression there was no nuance when it comes to war crimes, that if you do X, Y or Z, it's a war crime, end of discussion.

Only the losing side commits war crimes. It's not an official rule but it is universally enforced.

Think of it like this, if someone does something that break trusts, would you trust them?

Ok. Considering the surplus of Jesus and a remarkable shortage of new, interesting and well sourced info - let me share a few:

Good source to read up on day-to-day happenings of the war (published military analystc.): https://medium.com/@x_TomCooper_x

Here - have some "fun" reading/listening to intercepted messages in the form of WarTranslated: https://wartranslated.com/

A good explanation of how Russia is falling apart and disintegrating from the inside: https://nadinbrzezinski.medium.com/conc ... 19a2638a61

And finally the ever-helpful Perun about why Western media panicking about the possibility of Belarus joining the war is kinda hillarious: https://youtu.be/sFmugMGl4Uo

Dragon Ball Fan wrote: Tue Jul 12, 2022 12:26 am I have been hearing about this conflict since it started from multiple sources and am naturally on Ukraine's side but at the same time, I have heard some talk about how some Ukrainian officials encourage their soldiers to shoot Russian soldiers, even if they surrender.

If that is true, part of me can't blame them but another part asks, why is that action a war crime if being desperate enough excuses it?
That honestly a good debate. All I can say is it possible that the authority or soldiers can't justify wasting resources holding them prisoners. Think about it, and be honest if you have medicine to heal a bullet wound and you have the choice between giving it to the guy who been shooting you and an innocent child most people will choose the later. I am not saying there isn't a debate to be have, or if they commit war crimes, but some people might not have the luxury of obeying the rules.
Hate to say it, but that is the nature of war. Specifically the kind of war Ukraine is fighting right now. Where would they put them? They don't have the luxury of Russia of bringing them back to their own country and housing/suiciding them.
I got nothing to say here.

Ukraine's totally-not-at-all-whatsoever-I-swearzies allies, like Poland for example, are actually helping with accomodating prisoners of war. This is not an official stance though.

Either way, the vast majority of Ukraine's prisoners are treated well, argueably better than Russia treats it's own soldiers.
