So something that is normal does not need to be celebrated? Think about that for a second before formulating an answer, because you both say that gays are not normal and that your last birthday celebration should not have been celebrated.

It's how it plays into gender stereotypes. I fail to see the distinction as to why straight people or gay people should be celebrated. It's an accident. No need for pride for either one, just accept both, and love who you love.

Re: The Straight Pride Parade
That's also a false comparison. Because more than one person can be gay or straight. While an individual's birthday, even though it can be shared by others, is still unique to that person.

More than one person has a birthday, obviously and if you want to, wierdly, argue in that direction, more than one person has the same birthday that you do (if you were born today, about 360,000 people would share your birthday, just fyi). But ok, how about, say, celebrating Independence Day? Or the winning of the Superbowl?

Re: The Straight Pride Parade
I mean, my reason for thinking that goes back to what George Carlin had said. Pride should be something you earn naturally. If it makes you happy, hey, then go with that. Use that term. Happy to be straight or happy to be gay or happy to be this or that.

But the expression still does not work. How does that relate to soup kitchens?

Re: The Straight Pride Parade
Because being straight was a privilege, being seen as gay was a minority and often mocked position. Same way the rich are privileged, and poor people are not.

The metaphor is about the inherent challenges one faces, that is the difference. For one side the system is all about you, for the other the system is actively working against you. Seems pretty cut and dry to me.clearspira wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 11:47 amWe don't have soup kitchens for the rich because they can afford soup - OK, that makes sense. But how does that correlate with the reason why we don't have straight pride parades?Rasp wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 5:21 amHa I'm keeping that one.ProfessorDetective wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2019 10:52 pm 'There's no "Straight Pride", for the same reason we don't have soup kitchens for the rich'.

Straight people can afford to be straight? No that can't be it because there are many rich homosexuals and many poor heterosexuals.
Straight people are not proud of being straight the same way people are not proud of going to soup kitchens? No that can't be it because many people are proud of being straight.
Straight people are proud of being straight the same way people of proud of going to soup kitchens? No that can't be it either because no one is proud of having no money to the point of needing a soup kitchen.
It does not work. Imo this is one of those lines that sounds profound until you actually apply logic to it and then it isn't.
Straight people don't need a parade to help them be more accepted they already are. Rich people don't need free food they already have it.

@clearspira You've obviously never met the anti-SJW right of center crowd.
