Without a doubt there could have been a better job of the withdrawal. I mean this was the worse case scenerio. Anything would have been better than this.
I got nothing to say here.

It sure seems that way, but in all honesty it's really hard to know for sure.

As I said before, this whole thing stinks of Saigon.
But to show I am not completely against Biden I will say this: he was right when he said that the Afghan Government did not even bother fighting. I am going to guess that Biden was hoping the Aghans would show slightly more backbone which would buy the US time for their withdrawal. Its hard to help those that will not help themselves.

Apparently, the Afghan military's tactical doctrine was completely dependent on US air support, as we trained them to be. When Biden preemptively ended that, it is not hard to understand how they became demoralised.
A managed democracy is a wonderful thing... for the managers... and its greatest strength is a 'free press' when 'free' is defined as 'responsible' and the managers define what is 'irresponsible'.”

I wouldn't call whatever the afghan army had a "doctrine". Their mentality was: The US is going to do that for us, while we'll stay over here, fire into random directions and smoke weed, while our either incompetent, corrupt or disillusioned officer sits over there and gets scolded by the US-military advisor or extorts money either from his own troops or the locals.

I very much suggest having a look at this. It's from 2013, but it was the same until roughly the 15th:

Supposedly the coward that used to be their president fled with 169 million dollars.

I doubt that this would have changed even if Trump was in charge. How Afghanistan acts once the US is fully out still remains to be seen.

This was always going to happen whether it was ten years from now, ten years ago, a year from now. Doesn't matter.

It sucks seeing this, but it needed to be done.
